Position Description:

A Data Specialist I is needed to assist in general laboratory work in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.  This individual will be expected to work independently on research activities assigned by the Principal Investigator and will be expected to conduct analysis of the data collected in the lab.  This individual will analyze the effects of various gene therapy approaches in retinal disease on retinal structure and function and on visual behavior. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop codes in Matlab and Python for streamlining the analysis protocols in the lab.

  • Adapt existing software codes for better user interface.

  • Help in maintaining data servers for the storage of spectral domain optical coherence tomography (sd-OCT)   image files. This includes working with the IT personnel and the data server team to troubleshoot issues pertaining to storage of the files.

  • Analysis of data generated from sd-OCT, full-field electroretinograms (ffERGs), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and Behavioral Recordings using established protocols of the lab.

  • Assist in record keeping and maintaining research data in cloud.

  • Assist in writing standard operating protocols (SOPs) for data analysis.

  • Work with machine learning/AI based programs for sd-OCT and IHC analyses.

  • Work with statistical tools like GraphPad Prism to generate data plots.

  • Work in collaboration with other research staff on data analyses.

  • Assist and support postdoctoral associates (and graduate students) with data analyses queries.

  • Collect/prepare materials for research reports.

  • Generate analyzed data plots for manuscripts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with software coding in MATLAB and Python and biostatistics.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in data analytics or Neurobiology/Biology. 

This is a full time position.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
