Overview

Connection has a fantastic opportunity through our Technical Staffing division for a Part-Time Contract Data Architect. This is a 100% remote role!

The Data Architect will design and implement a scalable AWS-based data lake and develop a secure API from the ground up. This role focuses on AWS S3 for data storage, SQL and NoSQL database integration (Athena, Redshift, DynamoDB), ETL pipelines, and API authentication (OAuth 2.0, JWT, RBAC). This role plays a critical part in ensuring the security, accuracy, and accessibility of data that supports insights into sexual, emotional, and physical abuse within sports.

Responsibilities

AWS Data Lake & SQL/NoSQL Development

  • Architect and build a scalable data lake on AWS S3.
  • Develop ETL pipelines to transform and load data into Athena, Redshift, RDS, and DynamoDB.
  • Optimize SQL and NoSQL queries, indexing, and schema design for efficient analytics.
  • Automate workflows using AWS Glue, Lambda, and AWS Batch.
  • Ensure data governance, security, and metadata management.
  • Strong knowledge of VPC networking, IAM roles, and security best practices.

API Development & Authentication

  • Design, develop, and maintain a secure API for accessing data.
  • Implement authentication & authorization using OAuth 2.0, JWT, API keys, AWS Cognito, and RBAC.
  • Optimize API performance, scalability, and security (rate-limiting, IP whitelisting).
  • Deploy APIs using ECS Fargate, ECR, EC2, Docker, and API Gateway.
  • Document APIs using Swagger/OpenAPI.

CI/CD, Version Control & Automation

    • Manage source control using GitHub, including branching strategies, pull requests, and code reviews.
    • Automate deployment pipelines with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Docker, or AWS CodePipeline.
    • Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) using Terraform or CloudFormation.

USD $70.00/Hr.

Max

USD $80.00/Hr.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years in data architecture, database design, and API development.
  • Strong expertise in AWS (S3, Athena, Glue, Lambda, Redshift, DynamoDB, API Gateway, ECS Fargate, EC2, AWS Batch, ECR, VPC, IAM).
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python (FastAPI, Flask, Django), and RESTful APIs.
  • Experience in data modeling, ETL, and cloud-based security best practices.
  • Strong understanding of OAuth 2.0, JWT, API security, and RBAC.
  • Hands-on experience with GitHub, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and automation.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and explain technical details to non-technical audiences.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with AWS Lake Formation, GraphQL, Kafka, or Spark.
  • Exposure to big data and microservices architectures.
  • Knowledge of GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule).

Relevant certifications such as:

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional
  • AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty
  • AWS Certified Database – Specialty
  • AWS Certified Security – Specialty
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
  • Terraform Associate (HashiCorp Certified)
