Required Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in data management, data analysis, compliance, or a related field.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or a Lawfully Admitted Permanent Resident to qualify for DSO/ARO status within SEVIS.
Skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a strategic and analytical mindset.
  • Ability to use data-driven decision-making to support ISS and RIT goals.
  • Proficient in computer and data skills, with a strong focus on understanding and managing data across various systems.
  • Capable of training end users on web-based applications.
  • Ability to work closely with Information Technology support teams for software upgrades & testing.
  • Ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information; uses confidential, sensitive, and/or private records and information, protects information appropriately.
  • Ability to establish, build, and maintain effective working relationships based on respect, empathy, and honesty with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Ability to work flexibly in a quickly changing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred.
Professional experience in a university setting.
Working knowledge of F and J regulations, the Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), and processing of immigration documents (forms I-20 & DS-2019).
Previous experience using campus student immigration compliance database (Ellucian ISSM).
Knowledge of ASL and/or deaf culture or willingness to learn.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of International Student Services (PDSO/RO), the International Data Manager (IDM) serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for RIT’s F-1 and J-1 programs, responsible for the daily operational oversight of SEVIS compliance, data integrity, and system integration to support institutional goals and federal requirements. This role manages the immigration batch software and its integration with campus systems, ensuring accurate data reporting, resolving system and data issues, and troubleshooting record conflicts for around 30 end users. The IDM plays a strategic role in leveraging international student and scholar data for process improvement, decision-making, and institutional planning, working closely with IT, Enrollment Management, the Registrar, and other University partners to align technology, policy, and workflows. The incumbent develops and refines record and data management processes, documentation, and cross-campus training programs, ensuring efficiency, regulatory adherence, and best practices in international student and scholar support. Additionally, the International Data Manager leads system testing, upgrades, and future transitions in technology to enhance compliance and data use. As a DSO/ARO, the role includes advising students on immigration matters and processing critical record updates, ensuring institutional compliance while supporting student success. This position requires independent judgment, discretion, and cross-divisional collaboration.
