Role Overview

• Responsible for the end-to-end delivery and 24/7 support of all products within your domain

• You will provide inspirational and energetic leadership to a team of Engineering Managers, and Engineers and be responsible for their overall engagement, line management, wellbeing, and performance. In some circumstances your leadership may also extend to other connected disciplines, such as Architecture. 

• Highly results focused, you’ll demonstrate the ability deliver at pace, set and operationalize strategy, set OKRs and execute plans to deliver against these.

• You’ll demonstrate the ability to build and maintain influential relationships and partnerships with a broad and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.

• You will create and contribute towards a working environment of positive relations and a culture that is inclusive, collaborative, empowering and delivery focused.

• You’ll be obsessive about delivering the right solution for right now, whilst acknowledging that balance is required between near term business value and setting  the Data department up for success in the long term.

• You will always place customer needs at the heart of the data solutions development process.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities 

• Delivery and 24/7 support of first-class software solutions that are secure, performant, reliable and help provide an engaging and safe customer experience.

• Driving a collaborative, efficient and continually improving test function that complements and works in partnership with engineering and wider teams to ensure the rapid delivery of high quality products and services.

• Driving consistent high performance and engineering excellence from the technical teams, you will lead by example in displaying the flexibility and desire to take advantage of new technologies as they emerge.

• Develop and own the engineering strategy in conjunction with other data leadership, ensuring this has sufficient input, visibility and engagement.

• Working with other data leadership, develop an active community of engineering practise within the division, focusing on the continual improvement of all activities and processes that involve Engineers.

• Lead with a people first approach, developing a high-calibre team through effective recruitment, training, and coaching 

• Ensure fit for purpose engineering practices and pipelines are in place for your domain

• Contribute to the identification and effective management of engineering and wider technology risks, taking ownership and driving actions to deliver effective mitigations.

• Use strong leadership skills, empowering colleagues to drive positive change and forging collaborative working between Transformation and BAU initiatives and teams.

• Ensure appropriate documentation is maintained and governance is applied in line with business-wide requirements.

• Work closely with the Operations function to ensure high levels of uptime, rapid resolution of data pipeline issues and a strong focus is established and maintained on service quality, reliability and stability.

• Responsible for ensuring technical expertise is applied in trouble shooting, incident management, root cause analysis and post incident decisions and actions.

• Work closely with the Sr. Director of Product Performance to ensure that effective practices are implemented across the vertical

Skills, Capabilities & Experience Required 

• You will be experienced in leading  data teams and have a successful track record of delivering complex data solutions projects and programmes through multi-disciplinary teams using agile, lean software and design-thinking development methodologies.

• An ability to nurture and enhance the capabilities of your team, ensuring you grow their skills and support their career development.

• You thrive on responsibility and completing tasks in a timely manner with good, clear communication. 

• You are equally comfortable working independently, and in a team to deliver excellence, working across boundaries and also within the Extended Data Leadership Team.

• Your ability to set priorities and focus teams on what is most important whilst maintaining resilience under pressure will be key for this role 

• Strong stakeholder management skills, able to understand and relay strategic objectives and plans and drive alignment 

• Excellent communication and influencing skills, including the ability to explain complex technical challenges in a simple and effective manner
