Job description:

Purpose of the role:

The Data Analyst will be part of the Internal Audit and Risk function. The work involves supporting the Data Analyst Specialist in Internal Audit and Risk with current projects and future developments within FQM. The data analyst will analyse large and varying data sets in line with specific objectives using available data analysis tool(s) (training will be provided). Work involves conducting the conversion of data into insights that will identify areas of risk and potential fraud, to facilitate efficiency of audit assignments undertaken by the internal audit team, and deliver insights to management.

 

The Data Analyst will assist on any audits or processes where there is data or information found in digital format. Data analytics can be utilized on existing audits to enhance that audit or purely on audits that would otherwise be a struggle without data analytics. Data analytics allows for complete data sets to be tested which increases the accuracy and coverage regarding the findings.

 

The focus will involve building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and to assist the Data Analyst Specialist to create automated and continuous exception reports to Internal Audit for continuous auditing purposes. Further, the focus will be to assist the Data Analyst to investigate the exceptions where necessary as well as any ad hoc analysis requests that may arise.

Internal Audit is responsible for reviewing business operations of the whole FQM group, helping to drive improvements in effectiveness and efficiency, promoting awareness of business risk, examining business processes to highlight any areas where it appears FQM could improve, provide assurance that our compliance requirements are met and report our findings to FQM senior group and site management and FQM Audit Committee.

 

The role offers an unrivalled opportunity to gain exposure to a wide range of FQM managers and operations throughout the group, so the individual will build their knowledge and understanding of the FQM business.

Reports To: Data Analyst Specialist and Group Manager Internal Audit and Risk

Key Tasks / Principal Accountabilities:

  • Prepare Terms of Reference for each review project they are in charge of and pass on to the Group Manager Internal Audit and Risk for review and onward transmission to FQM Management.
  • Complete work programmes, including Internal Audit data analysis on new and existing audit assignments, assigned with minimal supervision and also prepare meaningful work programmes during planning internal audit reviews.
  • Use the audit software tool effectively and efficiently on all reviews assigned to document all work done in line with the FQML Internal Audit Manual and FQML Internal Audit Policy.
  • Perform allocated audit assignments with integrity and objectivity avoiding any conflict of interest and act independently.
  • Complete work plan (adjust as needed), prepare schedule of findings, draft report and discuss with local FQM management.
  • Attend opening and close out meetings for all reviews assigned.
  • Provide regular feedback to the Data Analyst Specialist throughout the audit review to ensure all deadlines, requirements and standards are being met correctly
  • Undertake risk based system reviews of business systems in line with the FQML Internal Audit Manual and FQML Internal Audit Policy.
  • Perform data analytics on all available data and assist the Data Analyst Specialist with Arbutus data analytics software.
  • Carry out investigations into suspected frauds or other irregularities as directed by the Data Analyst Specialist and Group Manager Internal Audit and Risk.
  • Assist with administrative activities around the office at every possible opportunity by checking Visa validity and make travel arrangements.
  • Provide feedback to the Data Analyst Specialist on any new audit techniques and methodologies, legislation and internal policies and regulations insofar as they relate to the assigned duties and responsibilities of the post.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Graduate from a recognized university.
  • Internationally recognized professional internal audit, risk or accountancy qualification or study towards.
  • At least three years’ experience of audit and forensic work including data analytics experience (if possible).
  • Experience of supporting the development of audit strategies and plans in leading risked based audits.

Technical Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Strong oral and written communication, accounting, analytical and decision making skills.
  • Strong Personal computer, MS Office (Excel Macros) and ACL or Arbutus experience or SQL scripting.
  • Ability to promote safety in the workplace.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Operating knowledge of ERP system preferred.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours to meet specific work demands.
  • Must be able to travel internationally for periods of up to three weeks away from home.  Role involves up to 40% travel time.
  • Must hold a passport with no restrictions on international travel.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
