Department Overview:

The Office of Research Cyberinfrastructure within DoIT (Division of Information Technology) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is hiring a graduate student Project Assistant (33.3%) to provide administrative and analytical support for services within Research Cyberinfrastructure (RCI) including ResearchDrive, Cloud Platforms, Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELN) and Data Science Platform services. Qualified applicants must have experience with data analysis and visualization. This position is appropriate for graduate students from a wide variety of disciplinary areas.

Schedule:

Flexible work schedule. Approximately 13-14 hours per week.

This position is eligible for any of the following: 100% remote work; partial remote work; or fully on-site. Remote work requires an approved remote work agreement (RWA) agreement, which is reviewed and approved annually. An RWA requires successful candidates to possess their own high-speed internet and phone to perform the work on a university provided computer. Per University policy, transportation between home and assigned work location is not payable/reimbursable and will be at the expense of the employee.

Qualifications:

-Must be a current graduate student at UW-Madison, in good academic standing
-Good time management, organizational, and oral and written communication skills
-Ability to work both independently and under the direction of the Research Cyberinfrastructure service leads

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

-Demonstrated experience with data analysis/visualization methods and tools.
-Some experience using R and/or Python (or comparable software tools) for analysis of quantitative data

Position Summary/Job Duties:

-conducting analyses of survey data (both qualitative and quantitative) and usage metrics, including maintenance of existing workflows
-producing visualizations and reports from data
-gathering and summarizing user requirements for new systems
-providing user support such as adding new users to services
-developing and updating online support and communications materials for Research Cyberinfrastructure services
-participating in regular meetings of weekly Research Cyberinfrastructure group meetings and service team meetings as necessary
-providing logistical support for Research Cyberinfrastructure team meetings and events
-supporting other aspects of the Research Cyberinfrastructure services, as needed
-learning new skills and technologies relevant to the position
