LOCATION: Remote/Hybrid (San Carlos, CA)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Natera is currently seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist Intern to join our Bioinformatics Research team. The ideal candidate should be experienced in data analysis, pipeline development, and cloud computing in the context of high-throughput biological data. The individual will develop novel algorithms and provide support for analysis of large and complex genomics data sets generated within the group. The candidate must be enrolled in a PhD program and expecting to graduate within one or two years.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, implement, and validate algorithms and statistical approaches to analyze large-scale genomic data sets
  • Create coherent reports that effectively communicate the objective and flow of an analysis
  • Work with our team of computational scientists to answer specific biological questions
  • Collaborate with molecular biologists and clinical scientists to come up with creative research strategies that solve challenging problems in bioinformatics
  • Contribute to experimental design and quality control

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently pursuing a PhD in statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology or a related field, ideally within one or two years of expected graduation
  • Experience in Python, shell scripting, Unix command-line tools
  • Experience with version control
  • Familiarity with cloud computing and workflow management tools such as SnakeMake, WDL or NextFlow.
  • Experience in algorithm development, data analysis, and statistics
  • Ability to visualize findings and summarize results in oral and written form
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment with potential for high impact in a small team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous exposure to next-generation sequencing analysis or public databases such as TCGA
  • Previous experience of machine learning in genomics

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Duties are typically performed in an office setting. This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material.

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.Remote USA$45—$45 USD
