At Moxie, we empower entrepreneurs to launch, run, and grow their own aesthetics businesses with a combination of software and services. In less than 2 years, we have grown from an idea to a team of 50, with a business that is in the top-decile in terms of growth, and a remote-first team that has been self-described as high-trust, low ego, high output.

The Role

We’re looking for a Principal Data Engineer to take full ownership of Moxie’s data infrastructure, driving the evolution of our data systems as we scale. In this role, you’ll be responsible for refining our data pipelines, optimizing our infrastructure, and working cross-functionally with engineering, product, finance, and operations teams.

This is a unique opportunity to take the reins of a mission-critical data platform, work directly with senior leadership, and build the foundation for a high-performing data team as we grow. You’ll also lead partnerships with external vendors and help shape our long-term data strategy, including AI and machine learning initiatives.

What You’ll Do

First 60 Days

  • Build partnerships with key stakeholders: Orchard Analytics, Product, Engineering, Finance, Operations, and Provider Success teams.

  • Begin managing data systems alongside Orchard Analytics.

  • Familiarize yourself with Moxie’s data infrastructure, including tools like AWS RDS, Airbyte, Prefect, Snowflake, DBT, and Omni.

  • Understand our domain-specific data models (scheduling, payments, memberships, etc.).

  • Contribute to the data roadmap while handling Q&A, troubleshooting, and urgent analytics requests.

First 4 Months

  • Take co-ownership of all data systems and serve as the technical lead for the data roadmap (working closely alongside Orchard Analytics)

  • Manage capacity and recommend additional hires or resources as needed.

  • Become the domain expert for Moxie’s data models, collaborating with engineers to ensure best practices for schema design.

  • Own vendor relationships (Omni, DBT, Snowflake) and handle contract negotiations, service levels, and infrastructure decisions.

First 6 Months

  • Collaborate with AI Engineers and Product Managers to build AI-powered tools and agents.

  • Develop scalable solutions for automating data requests, FAQs, and enhancing our customer-facing systems.

  • Begin planning and execution of long-term machine learning and data science projects.

We’re Looking For Someone Who…

Data Engineering & Infrastructure Expertise

  • Deep experience designing and maintaining scalable ETL pipelines and cloud-based data infrastructure (preferably AWS).

  • Proficiency with tools like DBT, Prefect, Airbyte, Snowflake, and Omni.

  • Advanced SQL and data modeling skills, with a focus on analytics-ready data structures.

Problem Solving & Systems Thinking

  • A strategic thinker who can design scalable solutions and architect systems for future growth.

  • Expertise in balancing trade-offs between speed, scalability, and cost-efficiency.

  • Skilled at refactoring and optimizing data pipelines for performance and maintainability.

Collaboration & Business Impact

  • Excellent communicator who can translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and align data initiatives with business priorities.

  • Passionate about fostering a culture of data accessibility and self-service across teams.

Initiative & Ownership

  • A self-starter who thrives on autonomy and accountability.

  • Comfortable making high-impact decisions on infrastructure, vendor partnerships, and data strategy.

  • Experience mentoring engineers and establishing best practices within a growing organization.

Why Join Us?
  • Ownership: Lead Moxie’s entire data infrastructure (in close collaboration with Ochard Analytics)  and have the autonomy to shape our data strategy.

  • Growth: Build a team around you, drive long-term innovations in AI and machine learning, and work directly with senior leadership.

  • Compensation: Competitive salary, equity options, and comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.

  • Flexibility: Fully remote role with global reach and the chance to collaborate with teams across the US and internationally.

If you’re passionate about data and excited to build scalable systems that help entrepreneurs succeed, we’d love to hear from you.

At Moxie, we believe in creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and included. We encourage people of all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to apply to our jobs. If you require any accommodations to fully participate in the interview process, please let us know—we’re happy to assist.
