SageSure, a leader in catastrophe-exposed property insurance, is seeking a Data Operations Engineer to join our Product Development team. This role will support Underwriting and Actuarial, by designing high-quality data processes, maintaining Shiny applications, validating algorithms, and managing data-related requests. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with actuaries, data scientists, and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable data-driven solutions.
What you’d be doing:
Data Validation
- Execute internal recurring data prepping processes
- Develop and implement processes to validate data quality and integrity.
- Ensure the mix of data is reasonable and consistent across time.
- Detect and address missing values or anomalies in datasets.
- Create automated data quality reports for internal stakeholders.
Ticket Management
- Manage and prioritize data tickets from the Actuarial and Underwriting teams.
- Investigate data-related issues or discrepancies.
- Communicate ticket status and resolution timelines to stakeholders.
- Ensure a smooth and efficient ticket management process.
Shiny Apps Development and Maintenance
- Manage, maintain, and improve existing Shiny applications.
- Ensure the security and scalability of applications hosted on internal or cloud platforms.
- Collaborate with team members to design and develop new Shiny features based on business requirements.
- Optimize app performance and ensure user-friendly interfaces.
Algorithm Validation
- Validate and execute Groovy expressions to ensure correctness and efficiency.
- Perform XML data scraping and validation to support rating algorithm accuracy.
- Work with actuaries, underwriters and product engineers to ensure algorithm implementations align with business requirements.
- Document testing, validation processes, and findings.
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Bachelor’s or Masters degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Business Analysis, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or a related field.
- 0-2 years of experience in data engineering, application development, or a similar role.
- Proficiency in R, including Shiny app development.
- Proficiency in SQL and relational databases.
- Experience with data validation and quality assurance techniques.
- Experience with managing and resolving data tickets or similar workflows.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.
Highly preferred candidates also have:
- Experience in the insurance industry, particularly in underwriting or actuarial domains.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of data visualization tools and techniques.
- Proficiency in version control tools like Git.
- Familiarity with Groovy scripting and XML parsing.
