The Director of Payments Fraud will lead and enhance the fraud prevention strategy within our online gaming platforms. This role is responsible for developing and executing fraud risk management strategies, overseeing a high-performing fraud team, and ensuring a seamless balance between fraud prevention and customer experience. The ideal candidate will leverage data-driven insights, industry best practices, and emerging technologies to mitigate fraud risks while optimizing legitimate customer transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Fraud Management: Develop and implement a comprehensive fraud prevention and detection strategy aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Fraud Mitigation & Risk Assessment: Identify and address fraudulent activities, including bonus abuse, account takeovers, payment fraud, collusion, and money laundering threats.
- Technology & Automation: Work with internal teams and third-party vendors to enhance fraud detection tools, AI-driven solutions, and machine learning models. Continuously evaluate new technologies and solutions to improve fraud mitigation.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Leverage analytics, reporting, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to refine fraud controls, optimize rule sets, and reduce false positives.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Payments, Compliance, Product, Customer Support, and Legal teams to align fraud strategies with overall business goals. Work closely with the IT team to implement security measures and fraud detection enhancements.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure fraud operations comply with all relevant gaming regulations, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws, and Know Your Customer (KYC) standards in multiple jurisdictions.
- Team Leadership & Development: Manage, mentor, and grow a team of fraud analysts, investigators, and risk specialists, fostering a culture of continuous learning and process improvement.
- Incident Response & Investigations: Oversee fraud investigations, reporting on trends, patterns, and major incidents while working with law enforcement and regulatory bodies when necessary.
- Chargeback & Dispute Management: Oversee chargeback prevention and dispute resolution strategies to minimize losses while ensuring compliance with payment provider policies.
Required Qualifications:
- Experience: 7+ years of experience in fraud prevention, risk management, or financial crimes, preferably within the online gaming, fintech, or e-commerce industries.
- Leadership: 3+ years of experience managing fraud prevention teams with a proven track record of mentoring and leading high-performing groups.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of fraud detection tools, rule-based and machine learning-driven fraud models, and payment processing risk. Experience with fraud platforms such as Accertify, Riskified, or similar tools is a plus.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret complex data sets, identify trends, and take decisive action based on insights. Familiarity with SQL, Python, or other data analysis tools is a plus.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of AML, KYC, Responsible Gaming, and regulatory requirements in key jurisdictions (e.g., US, UK, Canada, EU).
- Collaboration: Strong ability to work cross-functionally, influence stakeholders, and drive fraud prevention initiatives across multiple teams.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present fraud trends and mitigation strategies to executive leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an online gaming, sportsbook, or iGaming environment.
- Knowledge of blockchain, cryptocurrency fraud, and emerging payment fraud trends.
- Industry certifications such as CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) or CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist).
