Job Summary:

The Geographic Information System (GIS) and Data Analyst's primary role for the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM) is to create, update, and report on GIS data within the Forestry Information Tracking System (FITS) and support Forestry planning, operations, and reporting requirements (Forestry Districts, Forest Health, Invasive Species, Urban and Community Forestry, etc.) through: GIS support to staff, contractors, and partners; data collection and maintenance; spatial and remote sensing analysis; product creation such as maps, reports, and ArcGIS Online apps and services. In addition, this position is responsible to: collaborate with partners on metadata, data and analysis exchange; quality control of data, analysis, and products (apps, maps, & reports); manage and track projects and tasks; develop and document GIS and Remote Sensing processes; lead team projects.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Create, maintain, and improve FITS, GIS, and Remote Sensing products such as data, analysis processes, maps, reports, and apps. Support their user adoption. Provide Quality Control & Quality Assurance of GIS and Remote Sensing processes, data, and products.
• Create, maintain, and document desktop and online GIS data services, maps, and applications. Use and create scripts and online tools to automate data processing, analysis, and report generation. Identify, propose, and implement opportunities for use of GIS solutions to improve Forestry Programs' efficiency and to reduce waste.
• Support Forestry Programs by providing analysis and mapping for a wide variety of Forestry planning and operations needs and supporting staff as needed.
• Train staff and customers on: GIS and Data systems, products, and GIS desktop, online and mobile applications. Support staff with GIS and Remote Sensing analysis.
• Drive on State business.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

• GIS systems, spatial data, and database management systems and development platforms
• Mathematics, statistics, and spatial analysis methods (queries, reasoning, measurements, transformations, descriptive summaries, optimization, hypothesis testing)
• GIS vector and raster data models, Feature Services, Map Services, Vector Tile Services, and File GeoDB
• GIS and Remote Sensing data entry techniques and methodologies
• Current GIS desktop and mobile software and procedures
• GIS scripting languages such as Python and Arcade
• Quality Control & Quality Assurance of GIS processes, data, and products
• General forestry or natural resource management

Selective Preference(s):

Proficiency with: ArcGIS Pro software; ArcGIS Online platform; Salesforce platform; SQL, Python, Arcade, and R; GIS and Remote Sensing data gather, digitize, manipulate, and analyze; Lead a team and manage multiple projects; Knowledge of forestry or natural resource management; Bachelor’s degree in GIS, remote sensing, geography, or equivalent experience

Pre-Employment Requirements:

A valid Arizona Driver's License.

Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

Retirement:

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).

Participation is a mandatory condition of employment for all employees who meet the eligibility and membership criteria as defined in statute.

Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.

The current contribution rate is 12.29%
