We’re here to help people find that perfect fitting shoe every single time. We have created a way to make a 3D scan of your feet and match that profile with our own (and the world’s largest) database of 3D-scanned shoes. We're looking for a Data or ML Engineer with a solid technical background and desire to learn and uplevel. The ideal candidate should have great technical chops and should be analytical, detailed, methodical, and highly organized, with a passion for technology and collaboration. To be successful in this role, you should enjoy complexity and learning about new and varied technologies such as data pipelines, cloud infrastructure, data science, machine learning and more. You should also feel comfortable interacting with colleagues and customers from around the world (we currently have customers in 63 countries!)

What you'll do

At SafeSize you will be responsible for building and maintaining critical data pipelines for our business. As part of your role, you will:

• Work with our Shoe Data Team to develop and maintain a pipeline for automating the parsing, validation and storing of shoe data that we receive daily from the retail partners and brands that we work with. You will write scripts, tools and pipelines to parse, transform, validate, and store the data. You will occasionally also help with the automated or manual validation and ingestion of the data to our databases.
• Work with our Data Science, DevOps and Software teams to maintain and improve our data analytics pipelines and overall data infrastructure. You will create and maintain data pipelines that ingest and transform data from different sources such as DynamoDB, MySQL and various other tools/services into our data warehouse on AWS Redshift and Athena.
• You will work with our ML team to automate the process for collecting and preparing the datasets for the training of our models. You will also contribute to the development of our ML Ops pipelines that automatically train, evaluate and deploy our models.

The expectation is that you will start your role at SafeSize focusing more on shoe data, but over time you will grow more toward the ML Engineer role. SafeSize will help you build your skills by providing interesting work, personal development budget, and most of all an experienced team of engineers who will act as your mentors.

Requirements

What you bring

• BA in Computer Science or Informatics – related fields may be considered only in combination with working experience
• Great programming skills in Python, including common libraries used for data manipulation and data scraping/parsing (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, BeautifulSoup)
• Knowledge of SQL and relational database systems
• Basic understanding of ML concepts and algorithms (e.g., how does a DNN work, training/evaluation, feature selection)
• Familiar with the typical software development lifecycle and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Git, unit testing)
• Comfortable doing any manual work required to understand and resolve data quality issues (e.g., manually analyzing data in Excel using pivot tables, vlookup, filtering etc.)
• Any of the following would be a huge plus:
  • Some previous working experience developing ETL data pipelines in the industry
  • Experience with no-SQL databases (DynamoDB preferred)
  • Experience with AWS services
  • knowledge of ETL tools such as Dagster, Airflow etc. for orchestrating data pipelines, transforming data, and managing workflow scheduling
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) in English, and Greek as well
• Passionate about solving hard problems and not afraid to make mistakes
• Interested in new technologies and eagerness to learn quickly and go outside of comfort zone
