About the Role

The Vice President of Enterprise Data, Analytics, AI & Risk will be responsible for driving WEX’s enterprise-wide data, analytics, risk, and AI strategy. This leader will oversee a diverse set of functions, including Enterprise Analytics, Enterprise Data Product Management, Data Governance, Analytics Community of Practice, AI Strategy & Operations, and Enterprise Risk Management related to data and AI initiatives. Reporting directly to the Chief Digital Officer, the this VP is responsible for defining and driving the enterprise-wide data strategy, prioritizing and coordinating data initiatives, and ensuring data and AI investments deliver measurable business outcomes. Risk will also report into this role, recognizing its critical importance in driving growth through smarter credit decisioning and fraud prevention. This leader will oversee enterprise analytics, a community of practice to cultivate and calibrate top talent, and special projects that harness AI for cost efficiency and new revenue opportunities. With a strong focus on stakeholder management, they will articulate the value of data investments, foster alignment across teams, and champion a culture where data-driven insights power decision-making and innovation at scale. This role is at the intersection of technology, business, and AI, ensuring that data serves as both an accelerator for growth and a differentiator in the market.

This role is highly cross-functional, requiring deep collaboration with the Technology organization, other Digital teams (including design and user experience), as well as key business stakeholders such as Finance, Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Commercial teams. The VP will ensure that analytics, AI, and risk initiatives are aligned with WEX’s broader digital transformation and business goals.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Develop and execute a holistic AI, data, analytics, and risk strategy that aligns with WEX’s business objectives and digital transformation initiatives.

• Lead data-driven transformation efforts, ensuring data and AI are leveraged to enhance decision-making, drive cost efficiencies, and unlock new revenue streams.

• Oversee the risk function, ensuring AI and data are used to optimize credit decisioning and fraud prevention to drive growth.

• Champion data governance and quality standards to ensure enterprise-wide data integrity, security, and compliance.

• Lead the AI Strategy & Operations function, identifying and prioritizing AI initiatives that drive efficiency, automation, and customer value.  Includes quantifying the outcomes and telling the story for various stakeholders. 

• Ensure WEX is at the forefront of emerging AI and data analytics technologies, keeping pace with industry advancements and evolving regulatory requirements.

• Establish and scale the Data & Analytics Community of Practice, fostering knowledge-sharing, best practices, and ongoing talent development.

• Serve as the executive voice for data and AI strategy, internally and externally, positioning WEX as a leader in AI-driven financial solutions.

Data & Analytics Execution

• Lead a high-performing team of analytics, AI, data product, and risk professionals, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, impactful data solutions while effectively managing risks.

• Oversee enterprise-wide analytics and reporting, ensuring the right insights reach the right stakeholders to drive informed decision-making.

• Own the data product roadmap, ensuring data is treated as a core asset that fuels growth, innovation, and operational excellence.

• Drive Data product management for our Shared Capabilities and Risk functions.

• Champion a test-and-learn culture, empowering business teams to run experiments, test AI-driven solutions, and refine decision-making processes, incorporating risk assessment and mitigation strategies.

Enterprise Prioritization and Collaboration

• Quantify and communicate the impact of data investments, ensuring a clear ROI and continuous improvement.

• Partner closely with Technology teams to develop a robust data platform and AI infrastructure that supports scalable innovation.

• Work with Product, Design, and Engineering teams to embed AI-driven insights and analytics into customer experiences.

• Collaborate with Finance, Risk, Legal, and Compliance to ensure responsible AI use, regulatory adherence, and risk mitigation.

• Engage with commercial teams to develop data-driven strategies that improve customer acquisition, retention, and overall business performance, while mitigating potential risks.

AI Leadership 

• Prioritize and manage a portfolio of data and AI initiatives, ensuring the highest-impact opportunities are executed with measurable results.

• Serve as a thought leader and accelerator for AI, evangelizing the power of data and AI in driving business success; includes quantifying our AI outcomes and telling our stories

• Embed AI and machine learning into WEX’s products and processes, driving automation, efficiency, and enhanced customer experiences.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

• 15+ years of experience in data and analytics, with a strong background in AI, business intelligence, risk management, and data governance.

• Proven leadership experience in managing complex, multidisciplinary teams and creating strategies that drive enterprise-wide outcomes, including risk management.

• Strong business acumen and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior executives and cross-functional teams, including on risk-related matters.

• Experience executing enterprise data governance programs, ensuring data quality, security, compliance, and risk mitigation.

• Expertise in data platforms, advanced analytics, AI/ML, data governance, risk management, and cloud technologies.

• Experience partnering with technology teams to develop data platforms and AI-powered solutions, incorporating security and risk management considerations.

• Strong technical aptitude to facilitate productive partnerships with engineering, product, and risk teams.

• Ability to translate complex AI, analytics, and risk concepts into actionable business strategies.

Preferred

• Experience in FinTech, Payments, or Financial Services.

• Experience driving digital transformation and implementing AI at scale, with a focus on risk management.

• Experience with modern data tools (e.g., Snowflake, DBT, Power BI, Looker, Alteryx).

• Strong proficiency and understanding of modern data architectures.

• Deep understanding of AI governance, responsible AI, risk management frameworks, and regulatory compliance.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
