About the Team:

The Sensors Division at STR excels at applied research and advanced technology development of impactful sensor system technology to address warfighter and intelligence needs. Our contributions are the culmination of modeling, development, integration, and test and evaluation of new capabilities, with validation testing at each step of development.

The Advanced Systems Development (ASD) Group within the Sensors Division executes a broad portfolio of undersea and overhead technologies to impact sensing capabilities in contested areas.  The Group develops novel system concepts, designs and tests candidate processing techniques, analyzes data collected in experiments and develops and tests full system prototypes. This work requires the development of advanced signal processing algorithms, adaptive beamforming, machine learning algorithms, and tracking/fusion.

STR is seeking a mid-level professional with experience in advanced sonar signal processing techniques. In this role you will be part of a team focused on the design, analysis, testing, and implementations of advanced underwater systems in support of customers seeking innovative solutions to complex and challenging national security problems.  You will collaborate with fellow researchers and engineers on multi-disciplinary teams within STR to develop, build, test, and demonstrate novel systems.

What you will do:

  • Design, implement, and test signal processing algorithms in software
  • Perform detailed active and passive sonar system performance analysis and develop methods to improve on that performance
  • Characterize sonar system performance including signal and noise analysis, evaluation of beamforming techniques, adaptive signal processing, detection, and tracking
  • Work as part of a team to develop innovative sonar system concepts including advanced signal processing techniques
  • Mentor junior staff and provide domain expertise

Who you are:

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is required by the U.S. Government
  • BS, MS or PhD degree with background in engineering, physics, applied mathematics or related field
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in active or passive acoustic sonar signal processing

Even Better:

  • Background in underwater acoustics, acoustic measurements, ocean structures, and other similar technologies
  • Experience in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation
  • Interest and aptitude for working on large, complex technical projects and teams
  • Ability to interact with technical and non-technical customers and external teammates to understand their technical issues, frame potential solutions and develop collaborative projects
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in scientific and non-scientific venues
  • Scientific curiosity and creativity
  • Skills in Python or MATLAB desired
  • An active DoD security clearance of SECRET or higher
