About the role:
You will be a part of a pool of analysts who are responsible for analyzing the financial performance of the Business Unit Life & Health Reinsurance (BU L&H Re). We support our leading client managers and underwriter in managing and steering their client relationships and portfolios. Within your role, you will be closely working with all teams within BU L&H Re Finance across locations to drive the digital transformation and analytics initiatives,
The core activities of the Data Engineer in the Data and Analytics team include:
- Gathering the requirements of sub-BU teams like Market FP&A, Reporting & Controlling etc. and making sure the data availability with granularities as needed by the teams
- Apply Big data analytics for the gathering of data, and assess data validity
- Undertake requirements capturing on business questions to be addressed and related performance drivers and critical metrics
- Use knowledge of existing data to propose and provide insights on performance drivers
- Simplify the data & tools landscape: identify simplification opportunities within the BU where deliverables require lot of manual efforts & tasks are repetitive & recurring in nature & try to automate them with the help of available tools.
- Drive, Build & Own BU specific tools and dashboards in coordination with other key teams to jointly drive forward BU agnostic analysis tools for market FP&A, R&C and other BU teams.
- Responsible for performing data quality checks for all conducted and delivered tools & solutions.
- Promoting the tools & solutions build by our team while creating awareness on their utilities, capabilities, and benefits to the users within the BU and other cross functional teams.
- Maintaining existing reporting platforms and performing change management activities as necessary
- Involvement in various other BU projects supporting Planning and Projections activities
- Use your strong analytical, data processing, and communication skills to provide opinions and valuable input.
- Quickly familiarize & adapt yourself with new and changing technologies and systems.
- Work in close collaboration with colleagues in BU Finance and other cross functional team.
- Contributing to ad-hoc projects and supporting other team members as required
About the team:
Data and Analytics team supports one of the key group goals i.e. Drive digital transformation and analytics. Our team caters the data & tools needs of business teams like Market FP&A, R&C etc. This enables business teams in performing their reporting and analytics activities efficiently and effectively while investing more time & resources on analysis than preparation of the reports.
About you:
- University degree (equivalent) in quantitative field (e.g. Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Industrial engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Econometrics or Information Technology) with strong Data/Analytical/Programming skills
- Overall, 7+ years of experience n (re-)insurance analytics, data engineering and MIS reporting
- Proficiency in PySpark (ETL layer)
- Excellent knowledge of relational databases like SQL Server, PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Proficient with writing SQL queries
- Knowledge of current Visualization tools is an advantage
- Familiarity in Palantir tools, Data mining skills would be preferred
- Knowing multiple technologies Excel macros, HTML, CSS, JavaScript is a plus
- Basic understanding of financial reporting process or familiarity of the US GAAP and IFRS accounting frameworks is preferable.
- Strong curiosity about/motivation to learn about insurance/reinsurance.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access)
- Proficiency in Power Query & Pivot and in languages like DAX is preferred.
- Identify, analyze and interpret trends and patterns in complex data sets, draw conclusions and make recommendations to management to improve operational performance. Also make predictions that the management can address issues proactively and not wait until the impact is made
