The AI Platform Core Components organization, part of AI Engineering, is looking for individuals with passion for open source, automation, and helping grow the impact of Red Hat’s AI offerings for our customers and the community. The focus of our rapidly growing organization is to provide independence for AI Engineering on implementing AI accelerators and core layers of the stack. In the position of Principal Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership to a diverse team of highly motivated software engineers on solving complex challenges by designing, implementing, and maintaining delivery pipelines for products within AI Engineering. Your focus will be on automating and optimizing software building, testing, and deployment, ensuring high quality and fast delivery. This position enables you to impact Red Hat’s rapidly growing AI/ML family of products directly.

Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Set the technical vision for the team and define short-term and long-term roadmaps

  • Design, implement, and maintain the product delivery pipeline by automating build, test, and deployment processes to enhance efficiency and reliability

  • Monitor CI/CD processes and performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements

  • Work closely with Product Management and other engineering teams to ensure smooth deployment cycles and coordinate releases

  • Integrate automated testing into the delivery pipeline, ensuring code quality and reducing manual testing efforts

  • Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for CI/CD processes, guidelines, and best practices

  • Implement security best practices in the CI/CD pipelines, ensuring compliance with industry standards

  • Diagnose and resolve issues in the CI/CD pipelines and assist with deployment failures

  • Be a coach and mentor to junior members of the team and help expand their expertise

  • Participate in upstream AI/ML communities with a focus on learning more about the various technologies and how they might be used within our offerings

Required Skills
  • Hands-on experience with implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines and proficiency in CI/CD tools, such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Tekton, or GitLab CI

  • Experience with containerization technologies, such as Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, or OpenShift

  • Experience with software development with programming languages, such as Python or Go, and understanding of scripting languages, such as Bash or Groovy

  • Experience with working as a technical leader for an engineering team

  • Demonstrable experience with implementing and owning complex features individually and in collaboration with others

  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with a focus on root cause analysis

  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with others

  • Ability to adapt to and work in a fast-paced, agile environment with evolving technologies and processes

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field

Bonus Skills
  • Experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform

  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform or Ansible

  • Relevant certifications, such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Certified Jenkins Engineer (CJE)

  • Understanding of open source development models

  • Experience with test-driven development (TDD), agile methodologies, and work tracking tools, such as Jira
