The Grady Lab at Fred Hutch is seeking a highly motivated Research Intern to contribute to our ongoing studies investigating the effects of aberrant DNA methylation on gene expression in colorectal cancer progression. The intern will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to analyze Human Methylation EPIC v2.0 beadchip arrays and RNASeq data from patients with normal colons, adenomas, and adenocarcinomas. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on research experience in translational cancer biology, bioinformatics, and epigenetics.
Responsibilities
- Perform bioinformatics analysis on DNA methylation and gene expression datasets.
- Assist in processing and interpreting EPIC v2.0 beadchip array and RNASeq data.
- Collaborate with faculty mentors and team members to develop research questions and analytical approaches.
- Conduct statistical analyses and generate visualizations to summarize findings.
- Document research methods, maintain accurate records, and contribute to data interpretation.
- Participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and research discussions.
- Assist in preparing scientific presentations, reports, and potential publications.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree (or currently pursuing) in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, or a related field.
- Experience with data analysis in R, Python, or another relevant programming language.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a research team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience with DNA methylation or RNA sequencing data analysis.
- Knowledge of epigenetics and/or cancer biology.
- Experience using bioinformatics tools such as Bioconductor, DESeq2, limma, or similar.
The annual base salary range for this position is from $43,181 to $100,027 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
