Data Scientist I (Operations Research)

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Data Scientist I to join our dynamic Operations Research team. The successful candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of data-driven solutions to optimize various airline operations, including but not limited to flight scheduling, crew planning, revenue management, and ground operations. Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with senior data scientists and operational teams to understand business problems and translate them into analytical questions.

• Clean, transform, and prepare large datasets for analysis using SQL and other relevant tools.

• Develop and implement statistical models and machine learning algorithms to address specific business challenges.

• Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends, patterns, and insights.

• Communicate findings and recommendations effectively through clear and concise presentations and reports, tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of data pipelines and infrastructure.

• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in data science and machine learning techniques.

• Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute innovative ideas to improve operational efficiency.

• Assist in the deployment and monitoring of models in production environments.

• Adhere to strict data governance and security protocols.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.

• 0-2 years of experience in a data science or analytics role (internships count).

• Strong programming skills in Python or R, including experience with relevant libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn), C+ is a plus 

• Proficiency in SQL for data manipulation and querying.

• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).

• Understanding of statistical modeling techniques, Operation research techniques and  Mixed Integer Programming 

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong work ethic and a passion for data-driven decision-making.

• Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure) is a plus.

• Experience in the airline industry or a related transportation sector is a plus.
