The Sr. SQL Analyst performs systems analysis assignments with varying degrees of supervision. The Sr. SQL Analyst also provides complex technical business support to clients that utilize small/midsize/enterprise level systems.
Within TBSM Technology, the Treasury Analytics Group (TAG) is dedicated to support the Treasury and Balance Sheet Management (TBSM) department in measuring and managing balance sheet, market and liquidity risks for the Bank's portfolios, both in Canada and US. This group manages technology infrastructure, processes and projects required to support various functional teams in TBSM
Day to day :
- Onboarding new feeds to ensure completeness and accuracy of TBSM metrics.
- Build extraction pipelines from Indigo to other applications to support regulatory or business requirements.
- Integrate third party vendor based upstream data sources or downstream analytics with Indigo.
- Migrate Indigo to the Azure Cloud.
- Manage Business as Usual (BAU) activities- i.e. manage regular processes currently in production.
- Analyze, document and validate business rules requirements from business users.
- As Spark SQL is used as a programming language for the business rules, a successful candidate is required to be able to write, test Spark SQL statements to translate the business requirements into the programming code.
- Optimize performance and tune Spark SQL statements
- Use Visual Studio (SQL Integration Services) to analyze SSIS packages
- Analyze multiple system builds by completing and updating project requirements documentation; understanding project scope; determining project priorities; ensuring efficient and on-time delivery of project tasks and milestones; following proper escalation paths;
- Collaborate closely with the technology team to implement the requirements, provide necessary guidance to testers during QA process
- Work with members of the team to put together estimates for work packages.
- Assess business process and system inefficiencies
- Develop a solid understanding of the Indigo platform and adjacent applications including both strengths and limitations, so that the candidate can become a voice of authority and a strategic influencer.
- Participate in standup and planning meeting as part of the Agile methodology framework
- Coach, mentor and/or lead a team of junior SQL Analysts.
- Review work of junior SQL Analysts.
Depth & Scope:
- Communicates with programmers to ensure understanding of business processes and requirements of the users. Works with programmers to ensure that the delivered system matches the specified features and functions
- Assesses available technologies recommending innovative and cost-effective solutions
- Analyzes business challenges and recommends appropriate IT solutions and services
- Maps current business processes to new systems and supports the transition to the new solution
- Determines interface requirements for effective system transition
- Resolves issues that cross multiple systems or departments that may affect the business process
- Develops detailed specification documents that include features and functions of the new system
- Develops test plans and test case scenarios to guarantee the new system design meets business requirements
- Implements new system installations, upgrade and conversions
- Documents selected system parameters, file layouts and application design layouts. Tracks open issues and resolution of issues
Education & Experience:
- 4 Year Degree or equivalent experience
- 7+ Years of related experience
- Excellent communications, problem-solving and decision making skills
- Progressively responsible experience in large scale corporate systems analysis
- Previous management experience required
- Ability to work with systems users or potential users to develop system specifications and requirements, applying business systems knowledge to ensure relevant areas of research are addressed
- Ability to independently translate user requirements into technical specifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading a team of SQL Analysts.
- Experience in financial services industry, specifically in Capital Markets and Treasury
- Experience with Big Data and NoSQL databases (Hadoop/HBase/Spark) and Spark SQL is a bonus
