ROLE OVERVIEW 

Our AI strategy and roadmap are investing more and more in building an AI-powered platform that enhances Brainly’s math answering capabilities and provides students with exceptional support in this critical subject.

The Q&A Knowledge Base ML team is currently focused on building and continuously enhancing Brainly's math solutions by utilizing cutting-edge Large Language Models and other advanced techniques to generate accurate and comprehensive math answers. Our vision is to create intelligent systems that provide accurate, step-by-step solutions and insightful explanations for a wide range of math questions, ensuring students receive the best possible support in their math learning journey.

The Role

This is a highly technical individual contributor role within the Q&A Knowledge Base ML team, working alongside with the Lead Data Scientist. You will collaborate closely with Senior Data Scientists and Senior Machine Learning Engineers and contribute significantly to the data science aspects of our math answering platform, leveraging state-of-the-art NLP algorithms, Large Language Models (LLMs), and mathematical reasoning techniques. You will have partial ownership in the research, development, and improvement of the math-focused AI models developed by the team. You will collaborate with other Brainly teams to ensure seamless integration and utilization of our deployed math models across the platform. 

The ideal candidate is an enthusiast of educational technologies with a strong product-oriented Data Science & Machine Learning background and a particular emphasis on leveraging LLMs for mathematical problem-solving.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Research and Development of Math-Focused AI: Investigate, implement, and evaluate novel techniques for math problem understanding, reasoning, and solution generation using Large Language Models and other relevant AI approaches.

• Experimentation and Model Building: Design, execute, and analyze experiments to develop and refine machine learning models for math question answering, ensuring rigorous experimentation processes and statistically sound conclusions.

• Mathematical Data Analysis and Insights: Explore and analyze large datasets of math questions, solutions, and student interactions to identify patterns, improve model performance, and discover opportunities for enhancing our math knowledge base.

• Integration and Collaboration: Work closely with Senior Machine Learning Engineers to integrate developed models and algorithms into the production math answering system, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.

• Roadmap Contribution and Planning: Actively contribute to the definition of the Q&A Knowledge Base ML team roadmap, identifying key deliverables and strategic directions for improving Brainly's math capabilities.

• Communication and Stakeholder Management: Effectively communicate research findings, model performance, and project progress to technical and non-technical stakeholders across the company.

• Maintaining Scientific Rigor: Champion and ensure adherence to high standards of statistical and scientific rigor within the team's research and development processes.

• Technology Exploration: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in LLMs, mathematical AI, and relevant technologies, and evaluate their potential application to Brainly's math answering challenges.

WHAT IS REQUIRED

• Advanced degree (Engineering, Master's or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field with a strong focus on Machine Learning and/or Natural Language Processing.

• 5+ years of experience as a Data Scientist or Machine Learning Engineer, with a demonstrable focus on NLP and/or mathematical problem-solving.

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform.

• Proficiency in Python and relevant libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Langchain).

• Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms, particularly in NLP and their application to complex reasoning tasks.

• Strong mathematical foundation and analytical skills.

• Excellent research and experimentation skills, including design, execution, and analysis.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

• Fluency in English.

WHAT IS PREFERRED

• Strong background in mathematics and experience applying AI to mathematical problems.

• Proven experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs) (e.g. Open AI, Google Gemini) and related frameworks (e.g., Transformers, Langchain).

• Familiarity with symbolic computation or automated theorem proving tools.

• Product-oriented mindset with a passion for building impactful solutions for users.

• Enthusiasm for educational technology and a desire to improve math learning outcomes.

• Experience in the EdTech domain.
