Job Title: Senior Scientist, Computational Biology

About The Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Computational Biologist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computational, statistical, and AI/ML methods, and will bring leadership competencies, agility, and a passion for learning. This role is based at our headquarters in Cambridge, MA or at our research site at Ghent, Belgium. Join us and be a part of a team that's pushing the boundaries of computational biology in AgTech. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of computational and statistical models to analyze large-scale biological data.
  • Utilize AI/ML techniques to integrate and interpret multi-omics datasets for target identification and validation.
  • Set the scientific direction and strategies for complex systems biology-based initiatives, pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including molecular biologists, computational biologists, and machine learning experts, to translate computational findings into actionable insights.
  • Stay abreast of novel methods and technologies in the field and demonstrate strategic thinking in their application.
  • Present research findings to internal and external stakeholders through talks, peer-reviewed publications, and conference presentations.
  • Mentor and manage junior scientists, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment.

Qualifications:

  • D. or equivalent with 5+ years of experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, or a related quantitative field.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R and Python, and experience with high-performance computing and cloud environments.
  • Strong background in network analysis, systems biology, and computational modeling.
  • Proven track record of independent research and a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues from diverse scientific backgrounds.
  • Creative and strategic thinking, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to recognize and learn from failures.
  • Ability to set long-term goals and strategies, aligning them with the company's mission and objectives.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to ensure efficiency in planning and execution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated strong leadership in projects or people management
  • Previous industry experience in Agriculture or Pharmaceuticals.
  • Experience with AWS, Docker, Git, NextFlow, Batch, and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience in plant genomics data is a plus but not required.
