The Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for designing, creating, and managing BI and analytics solution that turn data into knowledge. A background in data analysis and a strong business acumen is a must. The BI Developer should be analytical and an excellent communicator. Ultimately, the BI Developer will enhance our business intelligence capabilities to help Providence make better, more informed, decisions. Business Intelligence Developers are not only very strong analytically, but also highly skilled technical users of databases and reporting tools.
BI Developers are responsible for the development of advanced SQL stored procedures to support the database infrastructure needed for successful, complex analytic processing, providing data interfaces with external databases and report production. They are also responsible for a thorough assessment of the business needs behind the requests for new programming functionality.
The Business Intelligence team works closely with the Information Technology Department in the development, testing and promotion of SQL stored procedures and other programming deployments to assure that all such work is completed according to established IT processes and that all appropriate security, version control and other safeguards are followed. Additionally, BI Developers are to think outside the box for the appropriate solutions for complex business questions. The BI team is trying to answer questions before they are asked.
The BI Developer 3 is a mid-senior level role that requires informal leadership within the team and department. This position will assist in onboarding new caregivers, training, and helping leadership develop the technical vision for the Informatics department.

Required qualifications for this position include:
- Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field of study such as Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Healthcare Administration, or another related field of study -OR- a combination of equivalent education and experience
- 8 or more years of experience in programming using SQL
- 4 or more years of experience using data visualization software such as Tableau, PowerBI, SSRS, etc.
- Background in data warehouse design (e.g. dimensional modeling) and data mining
- Proven experience with database management, statistical representation of data, presentation, spreadsheet and word processing software
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Master's Degree in a related field of study -OR- a combination of equivalent education and experience
- Insurance experience
