POSITION SUMMARY:
The Voice of Customer team is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and analytical graduate student intern to join our team as a Custmoer Service Data Analyst Intern. The intern will assist the team in their efforts to use customer-centric data, especially survey response data, to find and recommend actionable ways to improve Amtrak customer satisfaction systemwide. The intern will contribute to ongoing innovation projects, organize and create reports from qualitative and quantitative customer data, work with cross-functional partners across the organization, and inform key thought leaders within the company.
 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Use data to identify areas where Amtrak can improve the rider experience
  • Help create fresh, innovative ways to show customer satisfaction through automation, new data sources, data visualization, advanced analytics, and/or statistical modeling
  • Use advanced quantitative analyses including regression and customer segmentation to provide actionable recommendations to senior leadership
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams by providing data and insights to answer key questions related to customer satisfaction

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a graduate degree in statistics, data analytics, psychology, sociology, economics, or a similar field at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must have experience/knowledge of survey data analysis/data that comes from human input (i.e., survey data, consumer/customer data, attitudinal/behavioral data, psychology research experience, etc.)
  • Must have experience/knowledge of advanced statistical models (i.e., regression, ANOVA, correlation, t-test, "predictive" or "causal" modeling, etc.)
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have completed at least 1 year of academic graduate studies.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Creative out-of-the-box thinking and a keen interest in using data to identify the drivers of consumer attitudes and behavior
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with data analysis and statistical software (e.g., Python, R, SPSS, etc.) 
  • Experience using regression/and or other advance statistical models
  • Working knowledge of SQL and Excel 
  • Working knowledge of Power BI or other visualization tools 
  • Experience with cleaning, restructuring, and summarizing data 
  • Proven experience managing multiple project and deadlines with various levels of priority


COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc.  In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
 
Summer 2025 internship program will run from May 19th - August 8, 2025.
