Role:

Rystad Energy is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Analyst in the Commodity Market - oil space to join our rapidly growing global Analyst Team. This new role will be responsible for providing fundamental regional/global market analysis and will play a key part in further developing our regional commodity market oil team.

The Analyst will be integrating crude oil, refinery assets, and products data, tracking regional and global flows and refinery runs, following key oil market geopolitical and economic developments.

The Analyst should be able to adjust their regional/global analysis to keep pace with the rapidly changing market conditions. They should also be able to discuss potential changes in the market and the impact these will have on oil markets in terms of analytics, crude supply and flows, refinery runs, products supply and flows, margins, and assets changes.

The foundation of our research products is a high volume of factual data, combined with sophisticated in-house data management systems and forecasting tools, to model physical relationships and market mechanisms governing the oil market and other global energy systems.

Tasks 

  • Support the maintenance and enhancement of crude oil production, trade flow, refinery capacity datasets, refinery runs, outages, and product supply, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely updates.
  • Assist in analyzing oil market dynamics, including crude and product supply, refinery runs, stock movements, and trade flows, to support internal research and client needs.
  • Collaborate with clients globally, addressing queries and providing analytical insights on crude, refinery, and product markets.
  • Contribute to market commentaries, presentations, and media interactions as required.
  • Contribute to the design and improvement of commodity market oil products (Crude/refinery/products), identifying new opportunities to enhance offerings.
  • Add insight and value to the general research, product development, and client-facing activities of the respective product teams.
  • Assist senior members of the team with routine and ad-hoc written reports and presentations, both internal and external.

Requirements

We are looking for motivated candidates with a strong academic track record, an analytical mindset, and quantitative skills to strengthen our regional oil balance team.

  • University degree (Master or Bachelor) within Engineering, Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or similar is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the oil market with 3–6 years of experience in a similar role covering crude, refinery, or products in the commodity market oil.
  • Strong quantitative skills.
  • Experience with oil price, data, and information providers such as Bloomberg, Refinitiv/Eikon, or S&P Global (formerly Platts) is a plus.
  • Experience in Commodity Market Oil with a focus on crude and refining would be preferable.
  • Basic understanding of the crude market, refinery fundamentals, and product market is desirable.
  • Knowledge of database design, SQL, and Python (or similar) is a plus.
  • Understands the importance of attention to detail in composing a complete and representative picture of the commodities market.
  • Proactive, independent, open-minded, and creative.

  • Great communication skills (English), both verbally and in written form.
  • Strong team player.
