Overview
The Director, Commercial Data Management is responsible for evolving, updating, shaping and executing the Commercial Data Management strategy and capabilities to support existing and future state Shionogi branded products.
This role will have the opportunity to develop, evolve, and build the tools, systems, capabilities, management and overall infrastructure of Shionogi’s Commercial data environment. This role will also have key responsibilities in owning the data strategy, data governance, and all data relationships with the vendors. This role will work in close collaboration with Business Insights and Analytics to develop a strong data foundation and requirements to enable bespoke analytics and standardized reporting; this role will also interface closely with Field and Marketing Operations to align data operations and business requirements to support the CRM and field force technology vertical.
This highly visible and foundational position will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support the implementation of data infrastructure for the Commercial Organization and guarantee adequate access to and visibility of internal and external vendor data required to support the business.
Responsibilities
Directly lead the development and execution of Shionogi’s commercial data management strategy and infrastructure in support of key cross-functional launch activities. This includes (but is not limited to):
- Commercial Data Environment and Infrastructure:
- Development, maintenance and evolution of data warehouse with related systems and processes, including daily operations with data warehouse and system partners
- Lead project engagements including identification of vendor partners, development of project scope and coordination across strategic vendors and relevant business team members
- Identification of business requirements for data warehouse architecture and reporting build
- Proactive identification and management of necessary infrastructure upgrades including servers, warehouse, reporting platforms, and other systems (in partnership with IT)
- Data strategy and management:
- Lead the acquisition, building, integration, stewardship, and governance of all commercial datasets to enable commercial insights and reporting (both strategic and tactical execution)
- Includes management and oversight of the existing inflow / outflow and organization of commercial data (e.g. Promotional activity, Speaker Bureau, Claims, retail and non-retail, EDI 852, 867, etc.)
- Future management of novel data sets, including unstructured and non-commercial data sets to support the upcoming launches and business ventures
- Manages the master data for existing business and oversees related data stewardship and change management processes as needed
- Manage and own data vendor relationships including daily operations and data intake process, leading status update calls, contract updates, and regular business reviews as needed
- Develop and support data integration and validation processes (e.g., systems, personnel, processes) for end-to-end data management from ingestion to provisioning
- Manage data stewardship and operations functions and teams, including partnership with IT and external vendors to ensure data quality and integrity maintained; resolve data-related issues and disruptions with appropriate updates to the business
- Proactive identification of important and novel data vendors, datasets, and resources
- Lead the acquisition, building, integration, stewardship, and governance of all commercial datasets to enable commercial insights and reporting (both strategic and tactical execution)
Support the business with the onboarding of new data, defining data quality checks, with metadata management and data inventory build; including management of vendors to document all business rules and management for data lineage and maintenance
Act as main contact, lead and subject matter expert and lead for commercial data-related topics (internal, external and 3rd party); Inform and guide internal stakeholders regarding data availability, caveats and limitations
Lead the creation and management of Shionogi’s Data Governance process; this includes:
- Ensuring all aspects of data visibility and sharing are compliant (in partnership with Compliance, Legal, IT, and Finance)
- Creation of a Data Governance Committee to promote data visibility, reduction of data duplication and economies of scale re: data acquisition
- Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), monitor and execute necessary data quality control checks for accurate and timely processing of data warehouse updates
- Maintenance of an updated inventory of data assets and promote transparency, sharing, and utilization of data across the commercial organization
As part of the data environment evolution, build and maintain Analytics Ready Data Sets for commercial business units with product performance metrics, managed care information, customer profile information to facilitate self-service analytics
Support the quarterly incentive compensation process in partnership with Field & Marketing Operations by ensuring data integrity and readiness
Perform ad-hoc analyses as needed to isolate and identify data challenges/issues, as well as communication to the business as required
Collaborate with I&A and Field and Marketing Operations to ensure appropriate data requirements are captured and maintained to support CRM and BI platform processes
Minimum Job RequirementsQualifications
B.S. in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Analytics, Business, or other technical degrees; Advanced degree is a plus
A minimum of 8-10 years of experience of pharmaceutical industry experience within data warehousing and analytics
6+ years of experience in SQL, Relational databases with 3+ years of experience in Data Visualization tools such as Tableau, Power B.I., etc.
Strong understanding of specialty brand data and patient support services data, including experience working with specialty pharmacy (i.e., dispense, status, etc.), syndicated vendor (i.e., Claims, Rx), and patient service center data, (i.e., patient enrollment/intake, benefits investigation & verification, adherence programs)
Strong industry experience as a manager for several years practicing business function and technical capabilities in MDM, Customer Master and Affiliation Hierarchy Management
Ability to present data strategy and finding to different levels and stakeholders, including senior and executive-level leadership
Drive continuous improvement in system performance and service quality for technologies in commercial business applications
Previous experience successfully building a data warehouse preferred
Knowledge of field operations processes (including territory management and incentive compensation) preferred

Other Requirements
Ability and willingness to travel approximately 10-20% of the year.
Must live a commutable distance to our US Corporate Headquarters in Florham Park, NJ. Office presence is required at least 3 days per week.
Essential Physical and Mental Requirements

Ability to travel via automobile and/or airplane.
Ability to view video display terminal images < 18” away from face for extended period of time – up to four (4) hours at a time.
Ability to operate a computer keyboard and telephone.

Ability to lift, tug, pull up to fifteen (15) pounds.
