Overview

Summary/objective

The OEM Researcher reports to the Senior R&D Engineer (or R&D Lead) and is primarily responsible for the testing and validation of new hardware, software, and diagnostic algorithms. Additional responsibilities include working with data licensed from the OEMs to assist in the creation of new and/or updated diagnostic algorithms for use in the industry-leading BlueDriver and BlueDriver Max applications.

 

Given the complexity and magnitude of this OEM data, the OEM Researcher must be an automotive enthusiast (to leverage a desire to understand the architecture of vehicles) with an affinity for scripting (to build automated parsing processes for this data).

  • Operate scan tool in simulated and real world field environments to validate hardware and software updates
  • Perform manual/UI testing of new app releases in conjunction with QA team
  • Assist product team as needed with competitor and market research
  • Assist with OEM diagnostic development through a combination of documentation review, web research, and field testing
  • Monitor hardware and software releases, report metrics to engineering and product teams
  • Obtain and wire vehicle ECUs for use in validation and testing
  • Monitor developments in mobile technology and brief engineering team on upcoming device and OS releases
  • Gain product expterise to eventually serve as second tier support liason between first tier team and engineering

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of related experience
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with the operation of various Android and iOS mobile devices
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications – Excel, Word
  • Working knowledge of automotive systems and specifications, including:
    • Engine, drivetrain, transmission configurations
    • Current and previous models and generations for most major manufacturers
    • General purpose and operation of common vehicle electronic systems
  • Basic experience with scripting language(s) - ruby, python, etc
  • Knowledge and interest in new and existing mobile and automotive technologies
  • Personal transportation for field work as needed
  • Good organizational and record keeping skills 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and unsupervised troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with record keeping and tracking/presentation of statistics and metrics
  • Understanding of web scraping concepts and tools
  • Familiarity with basic electrical concepts – power/ground, voltage, current, resistance, continuity, etc
  • Experience with use of basic hand tools

Supervisory responsibilities

This role has no supervisory responsibilities

 

Work environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers.

At times the position will also require field work including scanning user vehicles as well as retrieving salvage ECUs in outdoor settings.

 

Physical demands

Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 5 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. Position may also require basic tool usage at times.

 

Travel required

This position will require limited travel.
