Infrastructure Engineering Advisor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled IT Teradata Support Engineer to provide technical support, maintenance, and administration for our Teradata environments. The role involves troubleshooting performance issues, managing database operations, optimizing SQL queries, and ensuring the stability and efficiency of Teradata-based systems. The ideal candidate should have strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of Teradata architecture, and experience in database management and system support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for Teradata databases, resolving performance, connectivity, and system issues.

• Perform database administration tasks, including backup, recovery, monitoring, and tuning.

• Optimize SQL queries and database performance by analyzing query execution plans and index usage.

• Manage Teradata system upgrades, patches, and software maintenance to ensure system integrity.

• Work closely with application development and business intelligence teams to support their Teradata-related needs.

• Implement and maintain security best practices, including access controls and data encryption.

• Automate routine database tasks using scripting languages such as Shell, Python, or SQL macros.

• Monitor system health, capacity planning, and recommend improvements to enhance performance and reliability.

• Provide documentation and knowledge transfer for support teams and end-users.

• Stay updated on Teradata advancements, tools, and best practices.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience: 3-7 years of hands-on experience in Teradata database support and administration.

• Technical Expertise:

• Strong knowledge and experience in supporting Teradata Database environment

• Thorough understanding of Teradata Architecture and Modeling concepts (On-premise and Cloud)

• Teradata Vantage (TDV) and VCL, NOS, OTF

• Teradata System and SQL Performance tuning and Optimization

• TASM, Workload Management, MVC compression

• Unix/Shell scripting, Job scheduling tools (ESP, Cron, ActiveBatch etc), Automation

• Data Movement across systems using QueryGrid, Data Mover, DSA

• Netbackup, DSA, Viewpoint, Data Mover, QueryGrid

• Teradata TPT, TPump, Multi Load, Fast Load, Fast Export, BTEQ

• Collaborate with IT Security teams to identify and remediate vulnerabilities and security threats.

• Understanding of Teradata Metrics and Reporting (Tableau, Looker)

• Problem solving, Service Now Incident handling, Documentation, End user training.

• Provide performance metrics/reports to management.

• Provide on-call support.

• Teradata Master Certification 12 and above

• Secondary skills:

• Teradata TTU packaging and client tools installation

• Networking, Firewalls, Data Center Migrations

• Knowledge of Agile methodologies and Kanban

• Knowledge of Databricks, Snowflake, AWS is a big plus.

• Knowledge of Data security, LDAP, Kerberos, Active Directory

• Knowledge of ETL and BI reporting tools

• Experience in Healthcare industry.

• Soft Skills:

Preferred Certifications:

• Teradata Certified Professional (TCA, TCS, TCE, TCM)

• ITIL Certification (preferred but not mandatory)

• AWS/Azure Database Certification (preferred if cloud migration is involved)

• Teradata Vantage (latest version)

• Teradata Database 16.x/17.x

• Teradata Viewpoint

• Teradata SQL Assistant / Studio

• Teradata Parallel Transporter (TPT)

• Teradata QueryGrid (if applicable)

• Integration with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)

• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, if applicable)

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
