The Adaptive Devices and Platforms Team (ADPT) is looking for an outstanding Machine Learning Engineer who specializes in developing generative AI systems. Are you passionate about incubating and deploying AI-powered technologies and features to millions of Apple users? Our team charter is to prototype next generation capabilities and platforms for new user experiences and/or Apple hardware leveraging the latest advances in multimodal LLMs, agentic reasoning, and optimization. With the rise of foundation models and the promise of Apple Intelligence, our team offers experts in the field an opportunity to apply their skills to enhancing Apple products everyone loves and incubating new products. Description


You will work with a passionate, mission-focused team to conceptualize, rapidly prototype, and ship next-generation technologies and features. To succeed, you must be a proactive and driven problem solver with a proven track record of working across multiple code bases, teams, and organizations. You must enjoy using machine learning to craft transformative new capabilities for Apple products, writing elegant code, and applying innovative new technologies in the service of human-centered design. Overall, this position offers the right person a chance to play a meaningful role in bringing the promise of AI offered by recent advances in generative AI to millions of Apple users in a safe, reliable, and delightful way. Minimum Qualifications


  • 4+ years of experience building generative AI systems using LLMs, diffusion models, multimodal models, etc.
  • 4+ years of experience with PyTorch and/or TensorFlow on platforms such as Hugging Face, Gupshup or Twilio with expertise in at least one domain of AI/ML such as NLP, CV, ASR, multimodality, reinforcement learning, robotics, model optimization/compression, etc.
  • 3+ years applying machine learning methods to products, features and/or services
  • Experience with all aspects of machine learning and model life-cycle management including data curation and collection, pre-training and fine-tuning, model evaluation and experimentation, model deployment and debugging, and post-deployment monitoring and updating.
  • Publications in research communities such as NIPS, ACL, ICML, CVPR, etc.
  • Excellent algorithm and data structure skills (time and space complexity analysis, optimization, etc.)
  • Skill in efficiently implementing algorithms published in technical papers and/or developing new algorithms
  • MS. or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Physics or related fields.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience in C/C++/Objective-C development is optional but preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and modify large, existing code bases
  • Enthusiasm for continuing to learn state-of-the-art techniques in machine learning and generative AI
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Outstanding communication skills with an interest in unraveling sophisticated and nuanced issues
  • Experience deploying and optimizing Large Language Models (LLMs) / multimodal LLMs as well as adapters and applying them to specific contexts
  • Knowledge of ML model optimization techniques, including quantization and pruning, and their implementation in micro-architecture and training environments


Pay & Benefits


  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
