Onity is committed to helping our customers save money, build equity and stay in their homes.The Director, Data Engineer will support enterprise-wide data science and financial modeling initiatives and lead the data engineering team. The candidate will have a strong background in SQL Server, Power BI/Tableau/MicroStrategy, with at least 10 years of experience in data engineering and analytics. This role will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and optimization of the data infrastructure and analytics platforms to support data science and analytics needs. This position will report directly to the Vice President of Financial Planning & Analysis.
Job Functions and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
- Strategic Leadership: Define and execute a comprehensive data engineering strategy aligned with business objectives. Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering innovation and professional growth.
- Data Science & Analytics: Develop and maintain enterprise-level dashboards and reports using Power BI and/or MicroStrategy or other tools. Collaborate with stakeholders to identify key performance indicators and translate them into actionable insights.
- Data Governance: Establish best practices for data governance, ensuring data quality, integrity, and security across all systems and platforms.
- Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional teams, including IT, data science, and business units, to understand and address data needs. Act as a liaison between technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure alignment of goals.
- Innovation & Optimization: Optimize data workflows to ensure timely and accurate delivery of insights.
- Data Platform Management: Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of robust data pipelines and ETL/ELT workflows. Manage database design, performance tuning, and scalability.

- Set objectives & key results (KPI’s) that support our Service Excellence philosophy and standards, and monitor delivery against these to increase Customer satisfaction levels,
- Promote and instill a high performing team culture, foster talent to improve and maintain retention levels, and support change management initiatives
- Allocate resources and drive accountability to direct reports to ensure achievement of results
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment, especially across locations and time zones, in execution of projects and identification/resolution of deficiencies or opportunities for improvement
- Oversee the data engineering group and lead the team to accomplish organizational goals
- Self-motivated; ability to independently analyze, lead, and present with limited guidance
- Ability to partner with all levels of management to ensure effective implementation of time-sensitive initiatives and identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvement
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Competencies in problem solving, decision making, creativity, and organizational skills while showing good judgment and execution within a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented in all functions
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in data transformation and reporting
- Knowledge of Tableau, MicroStrategy or Power BI tools required
- Minimum of 10 years’ mortgage experience required with experience in Originations and Servicing data analysis
- Four-year degree from an accredited university in finance, engineering, technology or equivalent experience required
- Advanced degree from an accredited university preferred but not required
- Minimum 7 years proficiency with T-SQL required
Training / Licensing Requirements:
- Must pass the Company’s Background Screening process prior to beginning employment. Additionally, as a condition of employment, you may be required to pass client-specific background check requirements or Federal/State licensing requirements, if applicable.
The salary range for this position is expected to be $150,000 – $185,000 per year, depending on geographic location, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for annual bonus based on performance and subject to the terms of the Company’s applicable plans.
