Director, Quality Engineering

As the Director of Quality Engineering, you will be responsible for shaping Omnicell's Software and Hardware Quality Engineering vision and strategy, building quality engineering platform capabilities, and enabling our software and hardware engineering teams to build high quality systems. You will lead a team of quality engineers and specialists, establish quality standards and processes, and collaborate closely with Omnicell's Software and Hardware Engineering teams, Enterprise Architecture, Data & Analytics teams, and other stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in Software and Hardware Engineering quality.

Responsibilities

Departmental / Functional Leadership:

  • Define and execute product vision and strategy for the Quality Engineering Platform within the larger Developer Platforms ecosystem to ensure and enhance the quality of engineering products and processes.
  • Listen to the voice of our customers in Omnicell’s Software Engineering, Infrastructure and InfoSec teams as well as other stakeholders to understand their pain points and needs in order to define and prioritize our approach and strategy for implementing a Quality Engineering approach.
  • Influence the program increment roadmap and backlog across portfolios by collaborating with other portfolios' stakeholders. Actively engage in Agile Release Train events, collaborating and coaching stakeholders to maintain alignment with the architectural vision.
  • Form strong partnerships with Quality, Product Management and Global Manufacturing and provide effective support by devising long-term strategies that improve quality.
  • Develop and deliver executive level presentations including the assessment of the effectiveness of quality processes.

 

Technical Leadership:

  • Design and Implement a software, hardware and system-level Quality Engineering approach that takes advantage of Omnicell’s variety of technical resources and lab spaces around the world. 
  • Provide expert-level quality engineering knowledge and hands-on problem-solving expertise.
  • Lead the facilitation for the development of quality specifications and processes for new products. 
  • Establish and enforce engineering practices and quality control standards for platform components and services. Track and improve key performance indicators related to quality engineering efficiency and effectiveness.

 

People Leadership:

  • Create an organizational structure to maximize the effectiveness of Omnicell’s current quality engineering resources.
  • Maintain full management responsibility for the performance and development of subordinate staff, including resource planning, hiring, talent, performance, and career development.
  • Develop, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of quality engineers.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement among Omnicell’s engineering and product management teams.

 

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay updated on industry trends and technologies, evaluating, and developing AI-assisted tools to improve productivity and system quality throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Encourage and facilitate innovation within and across the teams.
  • Promote and implement the scaled agility mindset, values, principles, and practices across teams.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Technical capabilities in quality automation and past successes with automation tooling like Cypress, Gauge, Cucumber, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with load and performance testing with Grafana Labs K6 or similar technologies.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Quality in a high technology manufacturing and development environment (medical devices).
  • Familiar with software quality processes and tools required for high-quality software and systems release.
  • Experience leading change in a global organization.
  • Strong experience in leadership, planning, and project management.
  • Excellent written, presentation and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote and establish teamwork and individual leadership within the discipline.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related discipline; or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience in quality engineering and software delivery on some or all of the following technology platforms (Java, Node, Python, .NET), including experience with systems architecture methodologies.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in direct leadership and/or cross functional team leadership experience
  • Working experience with building and deploying software on public cloud platforms (AWS preferred), Kubernetes and Service Mesh.
  • Experience in the Medical Device and/or Healthcare Information Technology industry preferred due to the unique regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of global compliance and regulatory certifications such as FCC, CE, UL, IEC

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline M.S. degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with Linux-based containerized systems deployed as part of a platform system, including on-premise devices.
  • Experience developing embedded system with Sensors, Wi-Fi, BLE, NFC, Thread, Matter.
  • Experience with AI vision systems, Computer Vision
  • Experience with NVIDIA Jetson platform
  • Healthcare industry experience in IoT, robotics and automated medication distribution
