(MTSI) is seeking a Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME) with extensive Kubernetes experience to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) to the United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) in support of the development and sustainment of the Space Digital Ecosystem and iNtegration (SpaceDEN). Place of work is Colorado Springs, CO.

Responsibilities

As a Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps) Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME) with MTSI,

extensive Kubernetes experience to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) to the United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) in support of the development and sustainment of the Space Digital Ecosystem and iNtegration (SpaceDEN). The candidate will work in multi-level classified environments to include Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Program (SAP) activities. A successful candidate should be a self-starter who possesses initiative, excellent communication skills, the ability to lead diverse teams and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, and a proven problem solver.

 

Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:

  • Ensuring containerized applications run smoothly and efficiently on the platform by managing scaling, security, performance, and overall infrastructure health.
  • Developing activities to adhere to Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
  • Ensuring development and software continuous integration continuous delivery (CI/CD) uses security best practices throughout the process.
  • Implementing security measures to protect Kubernetes clusters and applications from unauthorized access.
  • Diagnosing and resolving issues related to Kubernetes deployments, networking, and application performance.
  • Collaborating closely with development teams to containerize applications and deploy them on Kubernetes.
  • Ensuring capabilities that are deployed are tested and meet security requirements.
  • Working with cloud deployment activities to ensure configurations meet NIST, STIG, JSIG and other DoD required security standards.
  • Designing, deploying, managing, and optimizing Kubernetes clusters.
  • Managing infrastructure projects, implementing automation tools for cluster development, testing code and deployments, tuning performance, and identifying problems by looking at service and traffic metrics for indicators of problems.
  • Recommending prioritized fixes to the customer to implement quickly and efficiently for production incidents to support user-base in complex environments.
  • Ensuring the Platform as a Service (PaaS) is configured and can scale and be extensible as needed without being overprovisioned.
  • Provide guidance on developing, maintaining, and tracing requirements.
  • Identifying and implementing needed alterations/configurations for various NIST, JSIG, and DISA requirements for elevated classification environments.
  • Championing Agile development processes and adoption of modern DevSecOps workflows and practices while providing technical guidance to team members and co-workers on best practices.
  • Identifying and mitigating technological or process related risks impacting development.
  • Effectively coordinate with a geographically dispersed team.

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience performing engineering activities.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in container-based technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems and writing pipelines with tools like GitLab CI, Jenkins, or related technology.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing Infrastructure as Code with technologies like Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, or related technology.
  • Expertise in DevOps technologies, concepts, and agile methodologies.
  • Understanding of Modern programming languages (C++, Python, Java, etc.).
  • Experience with Mattermost, Jira, Jira Align, Confluence, and Outlook.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of analysts, developers, data scientists, operators, and subject-matter experts.
  • Possess strong analytic skills and be capable of operating in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communications skills with ability to provide briefings to program office staff about ongoing efforts.

Desired Requirements:

  • Understands Digital Engineering execution and strategy.
  • Relevant DoD and/or Industry work experience with Space Systems Command (SSC) or USSF Operational Test and Training Infrastructure (OTTI).
  • Familiarity with security procedures while working in a SCIF/SAPF environment.
  • Experience with DoD Acquisition Lifecycle experience and/or Rapid Acquisition / Rapid Delivery experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of Special Access Program (SAP) experience.

Education Requirements:  

  • Bachelor of Science degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, software development or STEM related specialty.
  • Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, software development, or STEM related specialty.
  • SAFe for Teams certification, Desired.
  • DevSecOps certifications (Kubernetes, Cloud, IaC, GitLab, etc.).
  • Certifications in security (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CISA) are advantageous.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Active Top Secret, SCI eligible.
  • Eligibility for access to SAP Information.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.

Location/Travel Requirements:

  • Place of work is Colorado Springs, CO area, remote work opportunity is limited.
  • May require travel up to 10% of time within the continental United States.

The pay range for this position in Colorado is $130,000/year to $190,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract wages, job- related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
