Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Scope of Position

Project oriented hands-on assignments and professional development activities. Interns receive training in strategy development and work on projects that drive Corning’s success. Work across multiple business groups, you will design and execute new models that deliver new understanding of the global trade landscape, and its impact on our market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support project teams as an integral member in their daily tasks and independently own selected work deliverables.
  • Develop problem statements, derive hypotheses, and identify and manage key stakeholders.
  • Analyze and research publicly available information, competitive intel, conduct expert interviews, and perform analytics to derive fact-based areas for improvement.
  • Work closely with SMEs in marketing, technology, strategy, PLM and sales, and global trade to develop knowledge base of importers, and corresponding supply chains. 
  • Develop easily searchable data repository to catalog pertinent information, historical analyses, and links to available data to quickly assess the market environment and inform decisions.
  • Based on above develop a competitive dashboard that is refreshed at appropriate cycles to provide early intelligence on changes to the landscape.
  • Collect and digest pertinent external communications from 3rd parties, Wall Street, publicly available government information, customer and vendor press releases.  Integrate info into dashboard listed above.
  • Publish and present reports summarizing above findings.

Education/Requirements

  • Enrolled in technical, business, or political science degree at Bachelor’s or Master’s level
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2025 (May-August 2025) with a graduation date of December 2025 or later
  • Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
  • Be willing to work at the posted job location
  • GPA of 3.25 or above preferred
  • Relevant experience a plus

 

Required Skills

  • Computer literate in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Desired course work completed to include: Business Analytics / Statistics / Probability
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI)
  • Ability to create alignment and consensus across functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to build relationships and interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present technical information
  • Responsive and consistent communicator
  • Collaborative team player
  • Open and receptive to a range of opinions and experiences

 

Desired Skills

  • Experience in SAS, Python, JMP, SPSS

 

Hours of work / work schedule / flex-time

  • Basic work hours are 40hrs/week; 8am-5pm

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
