Position Overview

Shaw Industries is hiring 2 Advanced Automation and Controls Instructors. These positions will be responsible for delivering advanced training to enhance the technical skills and knowledge of Shaw’s workforce, focusing on automation and controls systems. This includes designing and facilitating classroom, hands-on, and eLearning courses for Industry 4.0 technologies, such as autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs), automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), axis robots, cobots, SCADA/MES platforms, and vision systems. The instructor will ensure employees are equipped to manage, maintain, and advance Shaw’s automation systems, including machine learning and data-driven automation solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver training programs on advanced automation and controls technologies, including:

  • Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs).

  • Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS).

  • Axis Robots and Cobots.

  • PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms).

  • SCADA/MES platforms, specifically Ignition Automation.

  • Vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence, and others).

  • Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).

  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).

  • Industrial network communication systems.

  • SQL database integration and management.

  • Python programming for industrial automation.

  • C# programming for industrial automation.

  • Fundamentals of machine learning and its applications in manufacturing.

  • Create instructional materials, including:
    o Instructor-led course content
    o eLearning modules
    o Training videos
    o  PowerPoint presentations
    o Knowledge checks and surveys
    o Observational task lists.

  • Build and maintain training stands and simulations to provide hands-on learning opportunities.

  • Administer written and practical assessments to evaluate trainee progress and program effectiveness.

  • Mentor and coach trainees to ensure they gain the competencies required for their roles.

  • Stay updated on advancements in automation and controls technology, including AS/RS, vision systems, and machine learning, and integrate them into training programs.

  • Manage classes of 3 to 12 associates, adapting teaching methods to suit varying skill levels.

  • Travel up to 50% of the time to deliver training at multiple regional facilities, including evening or off-shift classes as needed.


Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in a vocational, technical, or engineering field OR 5 years of experience in automation and controls systems.

  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with or willingness to learn:
    o PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
    o Robotics and cobot programming.
    o AGVs and Industry 4.0 systems.
    o AS/RS systems.
    o SCADA/MES platforms, specifically Ignition Automation.
    o Vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence, or equivalent).
    o VFDs and HMIs.
    o Industrial network communication systems.
    o SQL databases and Python programming.
    o C# databases and Python programming.
    o Fundamentals of machine learning and its applications in industrial automation.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to create engaging presentations and training content.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, eLearning platforms, and other digital tools for training and documentation.

  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and work various shifts as needed.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role.

  • Experience in adult education and training in a classroom, lab, or simulated learning environment.

  • Prior experience managing or supervising associates in a technical or industrial role.

  • Bilingual (Spanish) capability.
