Areas of expertise include designing new substations and infrastructure, analyzing systems and disruptions to service, working with transformers, engineering the electrical protection and control circuits that handles the flow of power, and dealing with acceptance testing of equipment, failures of equipment and analysis of system disturbances.
Job Description
Are you ready to meet at the intersection of IT automation, distribution analysis, real time operations, and optimizing renewable energy? The Grid Modernization team at Eversource is seeking candidates for a full time Engineer to help support, test, and maintain its DERMS systems. As a member of the Grid Modernization team, you will help the company evolve in its operation of a Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) and the Electric Sector Grid Modernization Plan (ESMP). You’ll be supporting groundbreaking efforts to improve grid reliability, resilience, and effectively integrate renewable energy resources into day-to-day power system operations. Primary duties are to assess and support the use of DERMS software forecasting and optimization functions, DER dispatch capabilities, software upgrades, to ensure functionality for distribution system operators, and to validate, explain, and improve DERMS forecast and optimization results. This role will help integrate DERMS and dispatching DERs based on real-time conditions into the day to day roles of utility operations. This role also involves obtaining, cleaning, and reporting on data required by and recorded in DERMS.
This Engineer will report to the Grid Modernization Technology department, which is responsible for overseeing several large-scale grid modernization projects central to Eversource’s ESMP. You will work closely with the Lead Engineer and the teams responsible for each of these projects by maintaining, supporting, and testing new features of the DERMS software as they are released, as well as possible other software to optimize the distribution system. Ideal candidates will have a BS and/or MS in Electrical Engineering, with relevant distribution system planning, engineering, and/or operations experience.
The ideal candidate has experience in distribution system planning, engineering, and/or operations, and thrives on complexity and problem solving. This person is detail oriented, embraces change, and helps inspire others to move utility work and team members into our future vision of a grid supported by renewable energy. This person is ready to move from searching for distribution system data in multiple sources, and instead ensures that complex IT systems function optimally to allow system operators, engineers, and others to analyze the distribution grid quickly and efficiently.
