- Lead and manage the enterprise third-party risk function, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Provide leadership across distributed second-line functions, demonstrating the ability to lead without direct authority.
- Govern the direction of sophisticated enterprise risk management (ERM) policies, practices, policies and strategy.
- Develop and implement risk models and quantitative measures to evaluate risk levels using both external and internal data.
- Develop, deploy, and manage assurance programs in large and complex organizations or similar experience.
- Establish and manage enterprise risk thresholds, ensuring compliance and appropriate risk mitigation.
- Facilitate executive risk committees and present findings and recommendations to executive leadership.
- Leverage GRC, risk, and procurement toolsets, including Archer, Ariba, and ServiceNow to support risk programs.
- Manage risks across multiple third-party categories, such as Cyber, Continuity, Privacy, Regulatory, and Solvency.
- Utilize data tools, languages, and repositories within the team, including Databricks, AWS S3, SQL, and Python, to enhance risk management processes.
Work Arrangements:
- Preferred work location is hybrid, with 2 days per week at our office location in Columbus, OH.
- We will also consider candidates in Scottsdale, AZ and Des Moines, IA
Compensation:
- This position is classified under the H3 internal pay band.
Qualifications:
- Ideally 7-10+ years of experience in third-party risk, operational risk, procurement, or a similar function within a Fortune 500 company.
- Proven experience in transforming third-party risk management across various types of third parties.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and lead without direct authority.
- Expertise in risk modeling and quantitative risk measurement.
- Experience in establishing and managing enterprise risk thresholds.
- Proficiency in managing GRC, risk, and procurement toolsets.
- Experience in leading executive risk committees and presenting to executive audiences.
- Familiarity with data tools, languages, and repositories.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Provides thought leadership for the tolerance of risk taking in pursuit of strategic objectives while considering returns, risk attributes, strategy, etc.
Governs the direction of sophisticated enterprise risk management (ERM) policies, practices, policies and strategy.
Leads the analysis and measurement of risks, independently and collectively, including correlation and diversification. Leads stress testing and scenario analysis and other techniques to understand potential impacts to the modeled results.
Enhances risk diversification, protecting capital strength and supporting the achievement of risk-adjusted target returns.
Handles risk monitoring and reporting. Defines enterprise risk metrics/measures for all significant risks and develops strong data governance practices.
Establishes risk management processes and related direction.
Leads initiatives associated with the identification, assessment, prioritization, and reporting of financial, operational and strategic risks to Nationwide.
Defines levels of authority, roles and responsibilities for the enterprise. Crafts risk policies and coordinates risk management efforts with internal partners. Establishes and maintains risk oversight structure for committees, councils, etc.
Researches, analyzes risk findings/issues and recommends appropriate strategic solutions to staff and business partners.
Influences the adoption of shared process, taxonomy, data, reporting and terminology.
Leads the department governance, risk and controls software applications.
Leads large-scale risk projects and delegates requirements or initiatives. Oversees and creates risk training. presentations and communication initiatives.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Risk/Actuarial leader. Manages a team of four or more Risk Management professionals.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, mathematics or related subject area required. Graduate-level studies in a related field with advanced degree highly desirable.
License/Certification/Designation: Progress toward CPA, CFA or similar preferred.
Experience: Typically, seven or more years of related work experience in insurance and/or the financial services industry.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Demonstrated people leadership capabilities. Proven analytical skills to build solutions for sophisticated risk management problems. Confirmed knowledge in risk management and the insurance industry. Confirmed ability to accomplish all activities related to the development and implementation of ERM processes. Advanced written and verbal communication skills. Highly skilled with influencing and presentation skills. Excellent project management skills. Ability to analyze financial and statistical data and make recommendations.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
