General Notes
This position supports an Army-funded research initiative focused on enhancing the reliability and scalability of Army communication networks in contested environments. The role involves designing secure, high-performance software for intelligent agents operating within a multi-agent framework that optimizes network topology under adversarial conditions. The project leverages high-performance computing (HPC), game theory, and machine learning in a novel framework for real-time decision-making in Army tactical networks.
Must be eligible to work in the United States on a full time basis for any employer.
Purpose
Develop, implement, and maintain software to run large-scale experiments on TACC, constructing a multi-agent reinforcement learning environment using ns-3. In this role, you will integrate HPC techniques and data-driven optimization to simulate adaptive network behaviors in controlled unclassified information (CUI) settings, advancing resilient communication strategies.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain secure, high-performance CUI software for military communication networks.
- Implement and optimize multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) algorithms for real-time network adaptation.
- Develop network security solutions to detect, mitigate, and respond to adversarial threats (e.g., jamming, spoofing).
- Implement parallel and distributed computing techniques for large-scale network simulations and testing.
- Deploy overlay-based network management systems that integrate with existing military radio systems (e.g., TSM, Silvus) at the application layer.
- Optimize software performance in Linux environments.
- Utilize project management tools (Jira, Agile/Waterfall) to track progress and collaborate with Army engineers, DoD researchers, and AI specialists.
- Document software architecture, security protocols, and optimization techniques for Army review and deployment.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in network administration, systems engineering, or IT project management.
- Experience with Python, SQL, R, or C++ for data analysis and automation.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn) and HPC tools (CUDA, MPI).
- Familiarity with Linux system administration, cloud computing (AWS, Azure), and high-performance computing (HPC) concepts.
- Understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) and DevOps practices.
- Hands-on experience with network troubleshooting, infrastructure planning, and system optimization.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or Cybersecurity.
- Active or recent Secret security clearance (TS/SCI preferred). Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
- Experience with discrete-event network simulators like ns-3.
- Industry certifications such as CCNA, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, CompTIA Security+.
- Familiarity with Army tactical networks (ModRF, TSM, Silvus) or DoD communication systems.
- Background in multi-agent systems, reinforcement learning, or game-theoretic network optimization.
Salary Range
$96,000
Working Conditions
- Secure computing environment, with access to HPC and GPU clusters for large-scale simulations.
- Collaboration with DoD researchers, Army engineers, and academic teams.
- Occasional travel to Army test sites for field demonstrations.
