We have an exciting opportunity in Investment Management and Finance Risk (IMFR) for someone interested in developing and applying expertise on Vanguard’s business and financial models. This role will leverage the understanding of financial principles, regulatory implications, and capital management frameworks.    

This Risk Advisor role is on the Finance Risk team within IMFR which is part of Vanguard’s Global Risk and Security Division. Your role will involve working with the leadership of critical functions across the Finance, GR&S, and other business units to understand business operations and incorporate relevant factors impacting risks related to capital and liquidity.  

You will be seen as a valued partner and trusted resource to enable Vanguard’s business strategy; protect clients, crew and assets; and steward a risk-smart culture. The team is comprised of collaborative, hard-working, highly motivated, and technically skilled professionals who consistently deliver high-quality work in an exciting and multifaceted environment.

In this role you will:

  • Build and maintain complex financial models to calculate capital requirements and liquidity needs based on market, operational, and strategic risk scenarios.
  • Establish appropriate probability and correlation analysis for key risk scenarios.
  • Leverage industry best practices and relevant frameworks in existence where possible.
  • Partner with various business units on market, strategic, and operational risk scenarios.
  • Conduct regular stress testing using various market scenarios to assess the impact on capital and liquidity positions.
  • Calculate and report on capital and liquidity risk metrics to Finance senior leadership to assist with risk-informed decision-making.
  • Ensure risk modelling is in alignment with other Enterprise strategies such as capital allocation and the broader fiscal plan.
  • Continuously improve risk modeling tools and methodologies through data enhancement, new risk scenarios, and evolving algorithms.
  • Participates in special projects or other analytic projects as assigned.

What it takes:

  • Financial or Investment management industry experience preferred
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent experience required; CFA or graduate degree preferred
  • Proficient in statistical analysis, modeling, mathematics, loss forecasting, and stress testing best practices
  • Programming expertise in languages like SAS, SQL, Python, R, or other complex models a plus
  • Broad conceptual thinking with the ability to align risk management strategies with business objectives
  • Ability to communicate complex risk concepts to senior leadership

The Finance Risk team is located across three locations (US, UK and Australia) with this role located in Malvern, PA. The Finance Risk team also covers risk related to financial operations in Scottsdale, AZ and the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania.
