The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a dedicated Business Intelligence Analyst II to participate in Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) Fellowship Cohort 25-2 with USAA. The HOH Fellowship Program builds an extraordinary experience for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses that increase competitiveness and improve opportunities to find meaningful employment by providing development, skills, and exposure to corporate working environment and private sector business operations. HOH Fellowship Programs are best-in-class workforce development programs that are cohort based and twelve weeks in duration.
As a participant in the Military Fellowship Program, we understand that in most cases Fellows are ending their active service commitments and actively relocating. Therefore, while participating in the Fellowship program, Fellows are authorized to work remotely. If selected for full time employment, we offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, or, Charlotte, NC. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
As a Business Intelligence Analyst on the CFO Data and Application Management team, you will take on the role of information steward for a portfolio of CFO Snowflake Assets. As such, your day to day activities would include: metadata management for Snowflake assets (creating short and long descriptions for data elements); designing and implementing data quality and data monitoring rules; working with business partners and following the workflow for information sharing agreements in order to obtain CFO access to needed data; creating a collection of trusted queries and business rules to be used in conjunction with the stewarded data.
What you'll do:
- Independently or with guidance, participates in gathering business requirements by partnering with customer to define the business problem and data needs.
- Utilizes working knowledge of multiple data structures and sources to support the development and implementation of business intelligence solutions, which may include data visualization, data transformation, or data collection.
- Develops partnerships and works closely with IT execution teams on the development of analytic infrastructures, data engineering, or related business intelligence enablement efforts. Includes collaborating on the design and implementation of technical standards and governance practices.
- Applies data visualization best practices - often selecting the right data ‘tool for the job’ - to identify and interpret trends or patterns while following standard Enterprise branding.
- Understands the value of prototyping, usability, and the end-user experience to maximize the impact of the final data visualization product (dashboard, report, insight, or analysis).
- Acts as a trusted data visualization advisor to the stakeholder/end-user in order to drive business value.
- Develops working knowledge of relevant data, information, and application architecture to influence decisions.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
- Current participant in the 25-2 Hiring our Heroes (HOH) Cohort or a current USAA contractor in the Non-Direct, 25-1 HOH program
- Bachelor's degree in quantitative analytics field such as Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Operations Research, Data and/or Business Analysis, Data Science or other business-related discipline; OR 4 years of related work experience in statistics, mathematics or quantitative analytics or related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
- 2 years of experience in data/analytics or functional business experience within the respective industry of responsibility (i.e. P&C, Bank, Finance, etc.) OR an advanced degree in quantitative analytics field such as Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Operations Research, Data and/or Business Analysis, Data Science or other quantitative discipline.
- Working knowledge of business intelligence platforms, data management platforms, or SQL-based languages (Tableau, Business Objects, Snowflake, Hadoop, Netezza, NoSQL, ANSI SQL, or related).
- Ability to build business knowledge through meaningful partnerships at the individual contributor and leadership levels.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and advanced problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated presentation and communication skills.
What sets you apart:
- Intermediate level data querying skills using SQL or Python
- Experience with data management platforms (Alation and/or BigEye)
- Experience with Snowflake, including data warehousing, ETL processes, and the ability to optimize queries for performance. Familiarity with Snowflake’s architecture and its integration with other data tools is highly desirable.
- Inborn sense of curiosity and the desire to help solve business problems and drive value using well curated and accurate data
Compensation range: Hiring Our Heroes Fellows are paid by the HOH program. If selected for a full-time role, the salary range for this position is: $63,590 - $121,530.
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
