The Role

Proto is accelerating the world's transition to an open economy with products that increase access and independence for everyone. We're building Bitkey, a simple and safe self-custody bitcoin wallet that will put customers in control, as well as hardware and software that will help decentralize bitcoin mining and enable new and innovative use cases for bitcoin mining. We're developing these products in the open - you can read more about them at bitkey.build and mining.build. Within Proto, our Bitcoin Products team delivers the product and go-to-market strategy, software, firmware, and custom silicon needed to make Bitkey and our ambitious mining initiatives a reality. We are currently looking for a Silicon Validation/System Engineer Intern, with a background in ASIC and hardware testing to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of our ASIC mining products.

Position is ONSITE ONLY in our North York/Toronto office!

You Will

  • Become intimately familiar with Block’s hardware products and ASIC development cycles.
  • Test out the latest research technologies for our next-generation mining product.
  • Analyze test data, prepare test reports, and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Write and debug engineering automation scripts for the lab.
  • Utilize electronic measurement equipment to perform accurate and precise tests.
  • Create and execute test cases for ASIC characterization.  
  • Assist in developing and implementing test procedures for manufacturing processes and products.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying areas for process optimization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet specifications
  • Reach beyond boundaries to make Block’s products better wherever you see the chance.

You Have

  • Pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics or related technical field, graduating between between December 2025 and June 2027
  • Familiar with Python, or similar scripting language
  • Knowledgeable of statistics, and have experience utilizing statistical methods for data analysis to derive meaningful insights.
  • Eager to apply methodical engineering problem-solving skills to dig into challenges that are outside of your expertise.
  • Collaborative and able to effectively work in a team, ask questions, and share information to solve problems.
  • Adaptable, with the ability to quickly learn new concepts, technologies, and methodologies, and adjust to changing project requirements or priorities.

Even better if you have:

  • Experience with measurement systems automation.
  • Familiar with hardware lab equipment for test and measurement (e.g. oscilloscope, power supply, function generator, spectrum analyzer, DMM, etc.), or prototyping (Soldering, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, 3D printing, powertools, etc.)
