The Center for Health Data Science (CHDS) at NYU is a hub for transdisciplinary research with a global outlook, focused on data-driven analyses for public health. Position Summary

The Junior Research Scientist will support CHDS’s research initiatives by applying data science techniques to health-related challenges. This role will also involve collaborating with NYU Langone Health and the Institute for Excellence in Health Equity on interdisciplinary quality improvement and research projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in data analysis, problem-solving, and an eagerness to learn. They should have experience in leveraging data science for public health and an interest in exploring topics such as healthcare and social determinants, collaborative public health interventions, and policy implications. This role is ideal for early-career researchers seeking to expand their experience and contribute to meaningful projects in health data science. This position is offered for a duration of up to two years, with performance evaluations conducted at designated midpoints throughout the contract period.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct data-driven research in health data science, applying machine learning and analytical techniques to public health challenges.
  • Collaborate with supervisors on research projects related to health policy, healthcare, and disease prevention.
  • Data management, organization, and documentation to support research efforts.
  • Assist in designing and implementing data analysis strategies for health-related programs and initiatives.
  • Contribute to research dissemination through reports, web posts, manuscript drafts, and conference presentations.
  • Perform other duties as needed to support CHDS initiatives.

Additional Position-Specific Responsibilities

  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages, with experience in machine and deep learning workflows and handling large, complex health datasets.
  • Strong skills in developing analysis evaluation strategies and effectively applying them in research projects.
  •  Experience in data visualization and the ability to communicate technical findings to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, critical thinking, and discretion in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis tools and frameworks for health data analysis.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A collaborative mindset with strong problem-solving and customer service skills to engage effectively with teams and stakeholders.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field (e.g., data science, computer science, biostatistics) with at least 2 years of relevant research or data analysis experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis in applied health research or professional settings beyond coursework.
  • Experience working with and communicating to stakeholders.
  • Detail oriented, a strong analytic proclivity, proactive attitude, growth mindset, high quality organizational and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience contributing to health research projects or evaluations, with involvement in publications, presentations, or technical reports.
  • 1–3 years of experience in health research or evaluation roles with progressively responsible contributions.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $47,500-$65,000.
