THE OPPORTUNITY
We have an immediate opening in Greenville, South Carolina for a Motorsport Performance Analyst. Join Michelin Motorsports to support external race teams by engineering the only point of contact between the racecar and the ground. Leverage your understanding of vehicle dynamics and tire physics by analyzing tire usage, conducting on-track vehicle data analysis, and developing virtual tire models for off-line and Driver-in-the-Loop simulations. You’ll be at the forefront of tire and vehicle development through collaboration with internal R&D staff and our access to advanced tools and methods. In this role, all your efforts will focus on enhancing the interaction between tire performance, vehicle balance, and the sustainability of motorsport.
Situated in Greenville, South Carolina, the sprawling Michelin Americas Research Center (MARC) campus is home to approximately 650 talented employees, including materials researchers, product designers, scientists, engineers, test technicians and individuals in a variety of support roles.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Tire usage analysis:
- Conduct studies using a laptime simulation and/or processing vehicle data to understand the physical demands placed on the tire
- Tire measurement:
- Develop input parameters for lab testing and analyze results for tire modeling and data package generation
- On-Track vehicle data analysis:
- Collaborate with internal tire developers, modelers, as well as customer race teams to provide tire-centric information for improving the performance of the vehicle
- Simulation:
- Develop and adapt relevant tire models for use in our customers’ Driver-in-the-Loop Simulators
- Develop as a customer-facing expert at simulator sessions at a customer's facility
- Perform interpretation of tire physics to support tire and vehicle model development
- Develop the tools and methods required to complete performance analysis missions
- Work in collaboration with Michelin's internal R&D staff
- Promote our models and provide support to our customers
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact in a professional manner with external partners, suppliers, customers, and colleagues at all levels of the organization
- Strong teamwork, leadership, and organizational skills
- B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Data Science, Physics, or Automotive/Motorsports Engineering
- Experience in performing data analysis, including data cleaning, transformation, and visualization
- Working knowledge in the Python Core Scientific Stack (NumPy, pandas, matplotlib, plotly)
- Experience in software-based tool development. If the tool you need doesn’t exist, the ability to come up with new solutions is key to success
- Attention to detail and data accuracy
- Understanding of physics and math relating to vehicle dynamics
- Willingness to travel internationally and domestically - often on weekends in support of IMSA/WEC race calendar (up to 10-15 weekend events per year, plus joint test/simulation sessions)
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
- Experience with tire modeling (MF-Tyre, MFSwift, TameTire, Ftire)
- Experience in MATLAB
- Experience using simulation tools to optimize vehicle performance
- Experience analyzing on-track performance through both application vehicle dynamics principles and statistical methods
- Familiar with Motorsports data analysis software eg: WinTAX, HHTiming, Pi Toolbox, Atlas, Motec
