The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a dedicated Quantitative Risk Analyst I to participate in Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) Fellowship Cohort 25-2 with USAA. The HOH Fellowship Program builds an outstanding experience for transitioning service members, veterans, and military spouses that increase competitiveness and improve opportunities to find meaningful employment by providing development, skills, and exposure to corporate working environment and private sector business operations. HOH Fellowship Programs are outstanding workforce development programs that are cohort based and twelve weeks in duration.
As a participant in the Military Fellowship Program, we understand that in most cases Fellows are ending their active service commitments and actively relocating. Therefore, while participating in the Fellowship program, Fellows are authorized to work remotely. If selected for full time employment, we offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
As a Quantitative Risk Analyst I, you will provide risk management support for a line of business or staff agency in key risk identification, measurement and aggregation, and the understanding and management of risk through appropriate quantitative and analytical practices and processes. Conducts and develops quantitative and analytic models, assessments and/or applications in support of risk management efforts that assess the market and identify risks and gaps in existing or proposed processes. Monitors the risk and control environment to ensure that exposures are kept at acceptable levels and may consult on risk mitigation plans.
This position is passionate about assessing risks associated with AI solutions. The scope of work includes technical reviews of specific AI algorithms as well as assessing the quality of risk management practices across a broad range of potentially applicable requirements, such as Privacy, Regulatory Compliance, Data Governance, Information Security, Cybersecurity, Fair Lending, Third-Party Risk Management, etc.
What you'll do:
- Applies advanced analytics to assess future risk, opportunities, and efficiency and translates results into relevant solutions to improve decision making.
- Assesses and mitigates exposures through the identification of key and emerging risks in alignment with the risk strategy and appetite.
- Applies knowledge to produce analytical material for discussions with multi-functional teams to understand sophisticated business objectives and influence solution strategies.
- Produces and communicates analytical content for governance committees and business process owners to influence business strategies.
- May build statistical reporting and financial analysis to forecast results for required stress test scenarios, including analyzing and challenging stress testing results and partnering with relevant functions to validate those results.
- May engage in model validations, produce model validation reports, measure, and aggregate model risks, and/or report on model issues to committees, auditors, and regulators.
What you have:
- Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or other quantitative field OR 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree (8 years total without a degree).
- 4 years related quantitative analysis experience in a subject area relevant to risk management to include statistical analysis, modeling, mathematics or other quantitative subject area OR advanced degree/designation in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or other quantitative subject area and 2 years work experience in a quantitative subject area relevant to risk management. OR PhD in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or other quantitative subject area.
- Understand all federal and state laws and regulatory mentorship applicable to the organization and responsibilities of the role.
What sets you apart:
- Are you a current participant in the Hiring Our Heroes Fellowship Programs 25-2 Cohort or a current contractor at USAA from the 25-1 HOH Non-direct cohort.
- Experience in Model development, validation, or governance in accordance with Federal supervisory guidance on Model Risk Management (FRB 11-7 / OCC 2011-12).
- Experience in Enterprise Risk Management activities including Risk Appetite and Key Risk Indicator development and reporting and Enterprise Risk aggregation.
- Ability to synthesize concise and clear communications about complex topics and concerns.
- Solid background using Tableau, Power BI, Snowflake / SQL or Python.
Compensation range: Hiring Our Heroes Fellows are paid by the HOH program. If selected for a full-time role, the salary range for this position is: $93,770.00 - $179,240.00
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
