Principal Member of Technical Staff - Machine Learning Engineer

The candidate will work on the Adaptive Bug Search (ABS) project. Adaptive Bug Search (ABS) is a service that uses machine learning technologies to identify duplicate and similar bugs. ABS uses deep learning techniques to improve the accuracy of the ABS bug predictions. The Adaptive Bug Search (ABS) team at Oracle is looking for motivated and talented individuals. Our team is an integral part of the software engineering process at Oracle in identifying potential duplicate bugs. ABS is also integrated in improving diagnostics of the Autonomous Database.

 

The candidate will also work on the Database Search and Assistant (DBSA).  DBSA accurately answers questions about the Oracle Database and related products and services. It improves productivity for developers, support, customers, and partners. DBSA consolidates the content from 

various data silos, divides this content into chunks, stores embeddings for these chunks in the Oracle Database, and uses the AI Vector Search capabilities in Oracle Database 23ai to find similar content chunks when generating answers using the OCI Generative AI Service.

 

 

Job Description:

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc. 

 

As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. You will be responsible for defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems. 

 

Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to 

functional area with 5 years of software engineering or related experience.

 

As a member of this team, you will implement machine learning based solutions and algorithms and apply them to improve various software engineering process at Oracle.

 

Responsibilities:

- Own the development of machine learning algorithms

- Design and implement RAG based applications

- Design scalable and highly available machine learning and RAG based applications

- Improve the accuracy of existing algorithms to an acceptable level 

- Broaden existing algorithms to work well with various Oracle products 

- Improve the run-time of existing algorithms 

- Develop and maintain necessary infrastructure to run and maintain the ML based applications 

- Develop a feedback system to improve the accuracy of the recommendation system or AI application

 

Requirements: 

- BS/MS/PhD degree in computer science, computer engineering, applied math or related field

- Proficiency with machine learning algorithms and concepts

- Proficiency with coding in Python 

- Proficiency with Oracle database schema management and operation 

- Familiarity with code development in PL/SQL, C, C++

- 5+ years of work experience

- 3+ years of experience in developing or using deep learning frameworks e.g. TensorFlow, Keras, etc.

- Strong programming skills with proven experience designing, prototyping, and delivering machine learning solutions into production

- Designed and supported RAG based production class application

- Excellent written and oral communication skills

- Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to be a team player

- Strong analytical skills and an independent thinker

- Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP) techniques and models ideally with transformer architectures

- Previous experience with crawling and parsing documents in HTMl, pdf, other format

- Familiarity with embeddings and vector search

- Familiarity with working with large language models

- Familiarity with chunking strategies

- Familiarity with prompting strategies 

- Familiarity with Siamese Networks and Triplet Loss

- Familiarity with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) pipeline and optimization strategies

- Familiarity with various LLM reference-based and reference-free evaluation techniques 

- Familiar with various OCI services

- Maintain and optimize ML application in production environment to handle high volume requests

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $96,800 to $223,400 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
