Research Scientist

The Research Scientist conducts research projects investigating fundamental scientific and conceptual problems with the goal of breaking new ground which could lead to new inventions, new or enhanced products, or new business or market opportunities by disruptive and innovative solutions. You will create a substantial competitive advantage by generating company intellectual property. In Bell Labs Radio Systems Research at our Stuttgart site, you will research the design of wireless air interfaces. Your position will mainly focus on integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) in future radio access systems. You will drive optimization of ISAC with signal processing and machine learning (ML) methods.

 As part of our team, you will:

• Propose and publish research in major research forums worldwide.
• Establish strong cross-collaborations with Nokia business units focusing on ISAC products, solutions, and standards. 
• Create and maintain strong collaborations with researchers from academia, other leading research bodies, product business units, and government agencies.
• Generate intellectual properties rights. 

What you will learn and contribute to:

• Contribute to the definition of radio access network technical foundations for research programs, project objectives, and work plans.
• Develop solutions for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) in future radio access systems using signal processing and machine learning methods.

You have:

• A PhD degree in Communication Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Computer Science or a related discipline with expert knowledge in wireless communications.
• Specific experience in radar and/or integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) in the context of wireless access networks and protocols, preferably based on 3GPP family of standards.
• Experience in performance analysis or simulations, radio channel and traffic modelling, performance studies, with programming Skills in Python and/or MATLAB.
• Experience in usage of signal processing algorithms, including AI/ML.
• Ability to conduct independent research while also contributing to interdisciplinary, team-oriented projects. Ability to work in a collaborative environment with business as well as academic partners. Highly engaged and hands-on personality, versatile, and a self-starter.

It would be nice if you also had:

• Deeper knowledge in 5G/6G physical layer 
• Further programming skills in scripting tools, Linux environment, shell scripting, C/C++.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to express yourself fluently in English. German language skills are helpful but not required.
• Strong track record of publications, projects, and/or patents.
