Job Summary

The Director, APAC Modeling & Reporting, will have two key responsibilities – leading the modeling team and managing key transversal topics for APAC, including MAS regulatory reporting and supporting strategic projects. Under the modeling responsibilities you will lead development of Prophet models and tools currently being used by APAC Reserving Teams for their reporting across multiple reporting bases and jurisdictions. You will also lead the MAS reporting for both Singapore branch and Korea branch of SRAP, producing quarterly and annual RBC2 results, Industry Wide Stress Testing, and supplying stress tests & analysis for the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment 

The successful candidate will be innovative and proactive in identifying, designing and rolling out transformational improvements to the modelling of our diverse portfolio of business.  In particular, this role will work to identify new tools and technologies which can be implemented to bring a radical transformation to L&H’s modelling, reporting and analytical capabilities. You will also provide actuarial leadership on key projects in the region and will have a high degree of responsibility and autonomy. You will regularly deputise for the APAC Head of L&H Reserving on various transversal Life & Health topics.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of an expert team working in a fast paced and dynamic environment.  The role reports into the Head of L&H Reserving, APAC and is based in Singapore.  The regional teams are based in Singapore for both modelling and reserving. Regional modeling team provides actuarial modelling support to our Asia-Pacific markets, in particular to our local reserving teams based in Singapore, Korea, China and Australia.  This regional modeling team is supported by the wider Global Modelling Centre (GMC) team based in Ireland who champions the best practices and modelling guidelines. 

About the Department: APAC L&H Reserving

The APAC Reserving team is based in SCOR’s offices in Singapore, Sydney, Beijing and Seoul, and covers the Life & Health business. This includes business written in c.30 countries and 13 legal entities in the region. We are a diverse and engaged team, providing expert actuarial analysis and insight for our stakeholders. The department is led by the Head of L&H Reserving, Asia Pacific.

Modeling

  • Collaborate across teams to lead the design, development, testing, review, validation and delivery of models to meet the requirements of SCOR’s Asia-Pacific reserving teams
  • Build strong relationships with senior colleagues and key stakeholders:
    • Local Reserving Teams based in Singapore, China, Korea and Australia, 
    • Global Modelling Centre Lead and GMC team based in Ireland
  • Provide modelling expertise, direction and solutions for the Asia-Pacific business
  • Be the primary contact for all modelling topics in Asia-Pacific, ensuring appropriate communication with all stakeholders
  • Drive the planning, monitoring and co-ordination of model developments and production releases.  Deliver training, support and guidance to model developers and model users.     
  • Manage strategic modelling projects
  • Collaborate with SCOR’s  Global Reserving Centre and wider data science community to identify new tools and technologies to bring SCOR’s modelling capabilities to the next level:
    • Synthesise and get buy-in for an ambitious vision for where SCOR L&H can take its modelling and analytical capabilties in Asia Pacific
    • Work closely with our multiple geographical and culturally diverse teams to understand current practices and to explain and get buy-in for proposed changes.  Identify and develop solutions for challenges encountered.

Reporting

  • Lead all Singapore statutory reporting incluidng producing quarterly and annual RBC2 results, Industry Wide Stress Testing, and supplying stress tests & analysis for the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment
  • Work with the Capital Management team to provide accurate insurance risks forecasts to manage capital within the comfort range for these entities
  • Liaise closely with Pricing teams on the capital and reserving implications of new deals for these entities
  • Lead the actuarial reviews and audits for the legal entities
  • Support the annual assumption update process, reviewing the experience analysis produced by the business and leveraging the analysis to set best estimate assumptions, working in conjunction with the other APAC L&H actuarial team leaders.

Others

  • Manage the external retro reporting work in the region
  • Lead the expense assumption review for APAC L&H portfolio
  • Provide guidance on issues of methodology, appropriate techniques, and expert judgement
  • Support the growth and development of talent in the APAC Reserving team

Experience: 

  • Fellow of international actuarial bodies (FSA, FIA, FIAA or equivalent)
  • Experience in relevant technical areas: IFRS4, IFRS17, Solvency II, RBC, experience analysis, or other local statutory reporting.
  • 15+ years relevant experience
  • Experience leading large tasks/projects (regional / global) and managing senior stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Prophet including DCS, and VBA.
  • Development, testing and documentation of Actuarial Prophet models within a controlled framework
  • Experience in other actuarial modelling tools and programming would be a definite advantage, e.g. Python, SQL
  • Managed or led teams with an Agile mindset
  • High level of independence, flexibility, assertiveness and ability to build relationships and work across multiple geographic locations.
  • Demonstrated innovation and creativity in proposing new ways of working 
  • Flourishes working as part of a busy team in a fast-paced Agile environment
