Forterra
Forterra's AutoDrive® autonomous vehicle system helps defense and industry meet complex logistics challenges with improved efficiency and greater safety for front-line soldiers and civilian workers.About Forterra
Forterra is a leading provider of autonomous systems for ground-based movement in the working world. Amongst some of the earliest innovators in the field of driverless technology, Forterra is focused on building systems that protect front-line soldiers and enable civilian workers in our industrial base. Forterra is the go-to provider of ground autonomy solutions for the U.S. Department of Defense, which harnesses the technology for asymmetric warfare in critical conditions.
About the role
- We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Engineer to help design and develop an automated playback and analysis system for our GNSS/INS (Global Navigation Satellite System/Inertial Navigation System) solutions. In this role, you will work to build and improve a robust system that supports automated regression testing, performance analysis, and continuous validation of both our hardware and software systems. This position is key to ensuring that our GNSS/INS solutions maintain top-tier performance, reliability, and accuracy in real-world applications.
What you'll do
- Design and implement a playback system that can simulate GNSS/INS sensor data (including real-world and synthetic data) for automated testing and analysis.
- Develop and maintain an automated regression testing framework to evaluate the performance of GNSS/INS hardware and software across multiple configurations and scenarios.
- Create tools for data analysis, visualization, and reporting to evaluate system performance metrics, including accuracy, robustness, and response to edge cases.
- Integrate the playback system with the existing GNSS/INS solutions to allow for seamless testing and validation of algorithms, sensor fusion, and navigation systems.
- Collaborate with software and hardware teams to ensure the playback and testing systems are aligned with both the hardware capabilities and software requirements.
- Continuously improve the test coverage by identifying critical areas for testing and ensuring comprehensive regression testing across new system versions.
- Develop performance dashboards and generate automated reports to highlight trends, anomalies, and potential issues in the hardware and software systems.
- Support the debugging and analysis of test failures, working with the engineering team to diagnose and resolve issues.
- Maintain a continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline for automated testing of software releases.
Qualifications
- Experience with playback and simulation systems, particularly in the context of GNSS, INS, or similar sensor systems.
- Strong programming skills in Python, C++, or similar languages for developing automated testing and 1 data analysis tools.
- Experience in building automated regression testing systems, including integration with CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with GNSS/INS data formats, sensor fusion, and navigation algorithms.
- Experience with data analysis techniques, visualization tools, and reporting software (e.g., Matplotlib, Pandas, Excel, Tableau).
- Strong understanding of software testing methodologies and the ability to design effective test suites.
- Proficiency in working with simulation and modeling environments (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, or equivalent tools).
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills with the ability to analyze large datasets and identify issues quickly.
- Strong communication skills, able to work effectively within a team and across cross-functional departments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GNSS/INS systems, particularly in navigation and sensor fusion algorithms.
- Familiarity with real-time systems and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git.
- Knowledge of continuous integration tools (e.g., GitLab) and best practices for automating testing and deployment.
- Experience working with cloud-based systems or distributed computing for large-scale data analysis.
- Understanding of GNSS signals, error modeling, and sensor calibration.
- Knowledge of machine learning techniques for data analysis and anomaly detection.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
- 2+ years of relevant Engineering experience.
