As a Cloud FinOps Data Analyst for Pearson, you will be responsible for multi-cloud data visualization projects, developing and delivering qualified data to help us make informed business decisions. This role requires collaboration with key stakeholders such as engineering, product, finance, and lines of businesses to ensure spend and usage visualizations constructively support organizational growth and provide Cloud financial insights critical to our success.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Design, develop and maintain scalable data analysis dashboards for cost and usage forecasting, cloud consumption metrics, and business scenario metrics
  • Monitor cloud consumption, investigate, and escalate anomalies and unplanned spikes
  • Provide weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports with recommendations to drive savings and efficiencies
  • Analyze and produce meaningful insights that can inform strategic and operational decisions
  • Support the budget and forecast process in managing consumption, showback, and savings in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Manage cloud operations master data, including creation, mining from multiple sources, cleaning and reorganizing, and deletion.
  • Interpret data sets, find data trends and patterns valuable for diagnostics, predictive analytics efforts, and achieving business objectives.
  • Manage and design the reporting environment based on cloud operations data, including data sources, security, and metadata.
  • Provide quality assurance of cloud operations data, commission and decommission data sources and data sets.
  •  Support initiatives for data integrity and normalization, including advocating for adoption of standardized data attributes and processes to improve cloud operations data integrity.
  • Participate in the design and maintenance of data systems and databases related to cloud operations and cloud billing and assist with strategic decisions on new systems
  • Provide technical expertise in cloud operations data storage architecture, data mining, and data cleansing.
  • Identify, respond to, troubleshoot, and resolve data related operational and billing issues. Analyze trends to proactively prevent incidents. 
  • Establish strong working relationships with stakeholders, including partners in the Cloud Operations team, Sales, Sales Operations, Corporate Operations, Finance, IT Services, and clients.
  • Support other business requirements of stakeholders and ensure data architecture design is scalable, data is accurate, timely, and optimized

 

What Skills You Need

  • Expert Excel skills, Pivot Tables, array functions, Power Pivots, and basic SQL knowledge
  • Proficiency in Data Visualization and BI Platforms (QuickSight, Tableau, Looker, Power BI, others) 
  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages (Python, SQL, Java, Bash, Perl, etc.) for data gathering, data cleansing and statistical analysis
  • Technical expertise in operational data related storage architectures, data mining, and data cleansing, and statistical modeling techniques
  • Working knowledge of AWS, GCP and Azure data and analytics platforms
  • Able to recognize and attend to important details with accuracy and efficiency
  • Able to communicate clearly, convey necessary information, and promote ideas persuasively, with all levels of stakeholders
  • Able to create and conduct formal presentations
  • Able to interact effectively with all levels of management
  • Possesses strong leadership skills with a willingness to lead, create new ideas, and be assertive
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Familiarity with the FinOps Phases, Domains, Capabilities, and Maturity Model. 

 

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience with Cloud billing and cost management tools and processes
  • Understanding of database and big data management capabilities and constraints (RDBMS, NoSQL, Datalake, etc)
  • Experience managing or developing automation with object-oriented programming languages (Java, Python) and understanding of appropriate use
  • Working knowledge of Python Statistical Analysis tools (e.g. NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, SciPy) 
  • Experience leveraging REST API for extracting and/or posting data
  • Experience with the multi-cloud platform services (e.g. S3, Lambda) as part of development of automated solutions

 

Qualifications

Education (or equivalent work experience)

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher with Computer Science, MIS, Information Systems, Data Science or related field of study preferred.
  • 2 to 5 Years of relevant work experience
