We are actively seeking a highly skilled and motivated Software Engineer with data ontology experience and working knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (ML) to join our innovative development team. As a pivotal member of our organization, you will be at the forefront of development and implementation of data ontology strategies with AI/ML and semantic technologies.

An ACTIVE Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a Top-Secret clearance is required for this position. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. US Citizenship is required to obtain a clearance.
Requirements
- United States Citizenship
- At least four (4) years of data ontology and machine learning and AI concepts
- Competency in Python syntax and script development
- Efficient in delivering high priority asset modeling data packages that include required parametric data and documentation pedigree
- Ability to clearly and accurately document ontological processes and data pipelines
- Proficiency in ontology design and semantic web technologies
- Excellent problem-solving abilities with experience in conceptualizing and developing structured data solutions
- Support technical exchanges and project review briefings with other government and contractor personnel
- Ability to thrive in a flexible and dynamic work environment
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain formal ontologies using semantic web technologies (e.g., OWL, RDF, SHACL)
- Develop, document, and maintain knowledge graph queries in SPARQL or similar capability to extract data from the knowledge graph
- Translate disparate data models/standards into a common ontological approach
- Document the methodologies, tools and databases used to create the knowledge graph and high priority asset models
- Define tasks and dependencies leading up to product delivery to determine interim product due dates and track progress towards deliveries
- Implement AI/ML features by utilizing algorithms that calculate the semantic similarity between concepts in the ontology to enhance feature engineering and improve model performance
- Ensure the ontology is well-defined, consistent, and comprehensive to maximize its utility in AI applications
- Perform ontology integration, by leveraging the ontology's structure to explain the reasoning behind predictions made by your AI models, providing greater transparency and trust in the results
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience developing ontologies using Basic Formal Ontology (BFO) and the Common Core Ontologies (CCO) or similar tools
- Experience using the ontology editor Protégé or similar tool
- Proven experience with ontology modeling languages such as RDF, OWL, or SHACL, and SKOS
- Experience using GraphDB or similar knowledge graph tool
- Experience developing Python scripts
- Experience with databases
- Familiarity with JSON and XML
- Experience with data integration and data modeling
- Strong understanding of ontology engineering principles
Education
A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) is requiredCompensation
Compensation at SimVentions is determined by a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, training, security clearance, work location, skills, knowledge, and competencies, as well as alignment with our corporate compensation plan and contract specific requirements.
The projected annual compensation range for this position is $115,000 - $140,000 (USD). This estimate reflects the standard salary range for this position and is just one component of the total compensation package that SimVentions offers.
