Collins Aerospace Applied Research & Technology (ART) is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning (AI/ML) leader for a global team of engineers and data scientists. This team is chartered with creating, maturing and transitioning innovative data-centric solutions across engineering as well as trusted deployment in our aerospace products and services. This role requires a deep understanding of AI/ML technologies, strong leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve strategic objectives. As a member of the broader ART leadership team, the successful candidate will also contribute to strategic planning, business development, and direct engagement with our internal and external stakeholders. Our partners include RTX Technology & Global Engineering, Collins Engineering & Technology, leading universities, innovative small businesses, and industry peers. Our customers include the Collins businesses as well as external government research organizations and global public/private partnerships.
This individual will work onsite in one of our primary locations such as Cedar Rapids, IA, East Hartford, CT or Charlotte, NC.
What YOU will do:
Lead and manage a global team of AI/ML engineers and data scientists in the creation, development and deployment of AI/ML solutions
Formulate and execute AI/ML strategies that align with the company's business goals and objectives
Oversee the design, development, and implementation of AI/ML projects and initiatives
Pursue innovative technology offerings with external technology customers, both aligning technology development with customer priorities and influencing technology customer interests
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineering, DT, and other shared functions to integrate AI/ML solutions into products and services
Brief leadership on the latest advancements in AI/ML technologies and industry trends
Attract, develop, advocate and retain the next generation of technologists
Manage project timelines, risks, resources, and budgets to ensure successful project outcomes
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence
Represent Collins on national and international working groups and industrial standard and/or governance bodies as appropriate
Must be willing and able to travel up to 20% of the time (domestic and international)
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
2+ years experience in managing engineering teams and R&D projects
4+ years of recent experience in AI/ML research & development, including driving early-stage concepts through to technology adoption. This could include experience in areas such as data analytics, machine learning, deep learning, reinforced learning, generative AI, symbolic AI, and related technologies
Qualification We Prefer:
Experience with cloud platforms and services for AI/ML deployment
Ability to communicate and present to all levels of the organization
Experience in the aerospace and defense industry

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.
The salary range for this role is 147,000 USD - 295,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays.
