We are seeking a Manager of Data Governance and Stewardship to lead data governance initiatives and manage BigCommerce’s enterprise data catalog in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This role is central to driving data quality, consistency, and accessibility across the organization, supporting BigCommerce’s Business Transformation and Go-to-Market strategies. As the Manager of Data Governance and Stewardship, you will lead a team to establish and oversee data governance frameworks, ensure the effective implementation of the data catalog, and promote best practices for data enrichment and stewardship. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with exceptional interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of SaaS business operations, and a track record of successfully driving data enrichment, governance, and cataloging initiatives that empower business users and enhance decision-making.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and Implement Data Governance Frameworks: Establish and maintain governance policies, procedures, and standards to ensure data quality, consistency, and security across the organization.
- Manage the Enterprise Data Catalog: Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and adoption of BigCommerce’s data catalog, ensuring it serves as a trusted and accessible resource for business users.
- Oversee Third-Party Data Enrichment: Manage relationships with third-party data providers and administer tools (like Openprise, ZoomInfo) to ensure effective integration and enrichment of internal datasets, improving data accuracy, completeness, and value for critical business KPIs.
Master Data Management Processes: Manage and maintain Master Data in tools such as Reltio and Salesforce.
- Drive Data Stewardship Initiatives: Build and lead a data stewardship organization, promoting best practices and accountability for data ownership and maintenance across teams.
- Oversee Data Quality and Completeness: Hire and lead a contract team to manually improve data quality as needed.
- Collaborate on Business Transformation Projects: Partner with cross-functional teams to align data governance and cataloging efforts with broader Business Transformation and Go-to-Market strategies.
- Enhance Data Accessibility and Usability: Work closely with business and technical teams to improve data discoverability, usability, and integration for decision-making purposes.
- Ensure Compliance with Data Policies: Monitor and enforce adherence to data governance policies, ensuring compliance with internal standards and external regulations.
- Provide Training and Support: Develop training and change management programs and resources to increase awareness and adoption of data governance practices and tools across the organization.
- Measure and Report on Data Governance Success: Establish metrics and reporting mechanisms to evaluate the effectiveness of data governance initiatives and catalog usage.
- Partner with Leaders: Collaborate with IT, data engineering, and analytics teams to align on technical solutions that support governance and cataloging needs.
- Maintain and Build Culture: Promote a positive, performance-focused culture and drive behavior change to achieve growth objectives.
Who You Are
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Master’s Degree (preferred) in a field such as Data Management, Business Analytics, or MBA with a focus on Technology/Operations.
- Strong familiarity with GTM (Sales and Marketing) business processes.
- Relevant certifications (optional but beneficial):
- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
- Data Governance and Stewardship Professional (DGSP)
- Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
- Project Management Professional (PMP) for managing large-scale governance projects.
Technical Requirements:
- Data Governance Tools: Hands-on experience with tools like Collibra, Alation, or Informatica for managing data governance frameworks and catalogs.
- Data Catalog Management: Proficiency in implementing and maintaining enterprise data catalog solutions to ensure data discoverability and consistency.
- CRM Tools: Strong familiarity with Salesforce and similar CRM platforms.
- Data Analysis and Querying: Ability to read SQL and use data querying tools to evaluate data structures and support governance activities.
- Data Visualization Tools: Familiarity with tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker for creating governance dashboards or reports.
- Metadata Management: Understanding of metadata frameworks and their importance in cataloging and governance.
- Regulatory Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with data privacy regulations like GDPR, CCPA, or HIPAA and their implications for data governance.
- Cloud Platforms and Databases: (Optional) Experience with cloud ecosystems (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) and database systems (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or SQL Server).
